ballophun Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 Haven't smoked a cigarette in 6 weeks, but I just returned from a month long holiday in Italy where I smoked the greatest God damned cigar I've ever had. It was an HDM Epicure De Luxe. Not sure of the box code because I was too drunk to ask. I'll have to make a few purchases at some point in the near future before the duties increase again. I have a question about the tobacco excise that I'd appreciate some help with. If the excise tariff per kg of tobacco is $771.60 at the moment, how are FOH selling a cab of Epicure No 2, or even a box of 25, with taxes at $139.85? Are those taxes accurate? Cheers
ballophun Posted June 23, 2017 Author Posted June 23, 2017 Does anyone know? Am I reading it incorrectly? Because a cab of Epicure No 2's would incur at least a $400 import tax according to the latest figures. The legislation only sets out $540 or something per kg so it's obviously a few years old. Whats the deal? Anyone? Also, how good are HDM De Luxes. Jesus almighty. Beautiful ceegar.

MooseAMuffin Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 I will agree with you on the HdM Epicure De Luxe. I thoroughly enjoy them! As for the taxes...no idea

LordAnubis Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 You're reading it totally wrong. On 24:24 there are two prices. First price is for international buyers and is in USD. Second price is for Aussie buyers in AUD. No idea where you pulled that number from but it's wrong or is not for a box and only for 5 cigars or something. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
JohnS Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 For the Epicure De Luxe, they come in a box of 10. At the current $AU771.68 tobacco excise duty, tax would come to around $AU86 a box. A box of Epicure No.2 for 25 cigars would be around $AU224 a box.
Fuzz Posted June 24, 2017 Posted June 24, 2017 I think he's referring to the tax listed on the CUNTAS site.
Winchester21 Posted June 24, 2017 Posted June 24, 2017 All I know is I love the cigar and the USD prices on 24/24
ballophun Posted June 24, 2017 Author Posted June 24, 2017 Yeah I am referring to the CUNTAS site. The USD prices are so bloody cheap. I've got an Aussie mate coming over from NYC at Christmas. I wonder if it's worth him grabbing some and bringing them through in his checked luggage. Could get in a bit of trouble if he got caught. He may not like the cavity searches. Australian taxes are bullshit. It doesn't even work. It doesn't stop people from smoking. Nor does the plain packaging. It's just a mad government grab for cash. I'm straight up voting for the Liberal Democrats in the next election. Not that it'll be for years or make a difference, since the Australian political parties like re-electing their own leaders once the obligatory "democratic elections" have taken place. AndrewNR, pour me 4 fingers of scotch thanks. I've had enough.

Cheers I bought that cigar 1 time. Worst cigar I have had not from taste, but from half being unable to smoke completely blocked. The other half were good to go though.
ballophun Posted June 25, 2017 Author Posted June 25, 2017 The De Luxe or the 2? It's weird because I bought some De Luxe's about 2 years ago and this one I smoke when I was away was just incredible. Better than any from the box I had. Maybe they're not very consistent.

He may not like the cavity searches. If you ship them to a friend and get him to mule them over for you, you can run into 2 (possibly 3) problems 1- As CCs are still illegal in the US (unless personally carried in) they could get seized by US customs and destroyed on the way into the country (its a pretty slim chance, but its still worth baring in mind) 2- If your mate get picked up by customs with a box or two of cigars in his luggage he will be required to either pay import duty on the cigars at the current rate (on the spot) or have them seized. 3?- Not sure if openly ordering sticks under one account from an Aussie address and then sending them to another person in the US violates site conditions. I imagine that's a convo you need to have with Rob Australian taxes are bullshit. It doesn't even work. It doesn't stop people from smoking. Nor does the plain packaging. It's just a mad government grab for cash. "Tobacco Taxes Are Bullshit", you say? In other news, grass is green and water is wet. I'm sure you're fairly new to this site but rest assured, this topic has been covered often and at great length by every Aus based member here including rob. That is our cross to bare as cigar smokers I'm straight up voting for the Liberal Democrats in the next election. Not that it'll be for years or make a difference, since the Australian political parties like re-electing their own leaders once the obligatory "democratic elections" have taken place. Political discussions are generally off limits here, so I'll keep this point brief... There have been VERY few occasions where an Australian government new or old have ever repealed or reduced a tax once it has been in place for longer than 2 years. Considering the current might of the Anti-Smoking lobby in this country, hoping for political intervention when it comes to a reduction in tobacco tax would be like expecting the NAB to do something about ATM fees AndrewNR, pour me 4 fingers of scotch thanks. I've had enough. Welcome to the site There's a lot of information to be had and a great group of guys to converse with
ballophun Posted June 26, 2017 Author Posted June 26, 2017 RIghto, no more political discussion. I'm not new to the site but I'm rarely here. I come and go. Like Batman. I'm exactly like Batman. I spose I'll just pray for a good tax return and a raise.

And, as a multi-millionaire, I'm sure your tax advisors have the rebate covered.Nice wheels BTW!Thunder & Lightening '75-'15 2
