There is no right or wrong. I am new to cc, haven't even smoked one yet. Just trying to figure out what to start with Welcome Brian ....just go with a few samplers to start with. Or several singles. Dont think box until you have a better feel for what you like and dont like. Enjoy the ride! 1
awkwardPause Posted March 29, 2017 Posted March 29, 2017 Welcome to a very slippery, treacherous slope! If you decide to buy a box and some singles (I concur with a Rob sampler), then pick up a couple boxes of regular production in ten count format. I did this when I "crossed over" to CC's and I felt like it kept me satisfied and allowed me to "age" (a year or two) a few sticks to see how they evolved. My first box purchases were Partagas D4 and Montecristo petit edmundos, followed by 25 count RASCC, SLR regios and Partagas petit corona especiales. All pretty well known, consistent sticks that give you a nice little flavor array to start with. Then again, I had smoked a few CCs prior to buying those boxes so certainly you can't go wrong with a sampler to see what marcas/sizes your tastes line up with most (although you'll find that's not an easy task considering all the variables). In the end focus less on the marca and more on what is most enjoyable/memorable or sticks with good value (if you care). It's honestly just as much about the journey, so enjoy it and don't sweat the details. Cheers!Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk 1
miurajus Posted March 29, 2017 Posted March 29, 2017 Rob sampler friend! Get your feet wet and don't limit yourself to one stick. Figure out your tastes and continue updating the board as you begin narrowing in on your preferences. PLP, PLM, PLPC, El principe, RG perlas, multiple vitolas of Partagas (MF/SP) & HU (Majestic/HC), RyJ coronitas en cedro, RASSC, De Deputes, M5, are some budget stretchers I find great to mix in. VR Famosos, SLR Regios & JL2 currently are hitting the ground running if 50 5ish is your sweet spot. Overwhelming & vast, but it'll be there tomorrow. I tend to like variety so one box would be difficult. But, I think due to the start and end product years down the road being vastly different I'd probably opt for something RyJ, even though it's not even in my top 5 marcas.

subport Posted March 29, 2017 Posted March 29, 2017 I have to go with either 50cab of Lusitanias or magnum 46 1
Jimmy_jack Posted March 29, 2017 Posted March 29, 2017 Ramon Allones DC 50 cab. Cut them in half and I have 100 cigars. 2

I don't think one box is a valid question at all. Even in the 90s when only 3 cigars comprised 80% of all the cigars I smoked, there was still 3 cigars. I wouldn't have smoked a RyJ Ex 4 after dinner, and I wouldn't have smoked a BRC after breakfast. I'm sorry, but I could never just smoke or buy one cigar per year. If you pressed me, perhaps I would have said I could have only smoked Bolivar (as MRN also opined), so one marca could be manageable I suppose, but that was a long time ago, and not possible for me today. Could I select the El Principe as the one? No, I could not. Could I give up the El Principe? No I could not. 3
canadianbeaver Posted March 29, 2017 Posted March 29, 2017 One of those layered humidor things with 100 cigars please I saw at the LCDH in Amsterdam please. I will pay anything if it needs to be shipped to Canada. Will not last without cheating I am afraid. CB
Dave001 Posted March 29, 2017 Posted March 29, 2017 1 box a year wow can anyone just buy 1 box ? LOL monte especial no 1 is all you need if you cannot find it go with the no 2 equally outstanding

hellorockview12 Posted March 29, 2017 Posted March 29, 2017 RASS 50 cab.... I love me some RASS and the 50 cab lets me take advantage of quantity for the year... I'd pick a 50 cab of Lusis but I don't often have the time required to enjoy a double corona. Now...if I can use the mastercase catch...that may change my opinion!
stunod Posted March 29, 2017 Posted March 29, 2017 Since I only get one box, it would have to be a 50 cab of Partigas Luci"sand I would smoke away.

SloppyJ Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 I think the OP has misled us in what he's looking for. He's seeking recommendations for a starting point and is asking what our favorite cigar is. I'd say most people are going to list cigars that aren't currently in production or RE/LE releases. Also, the one box per year will undoubtedly change your answer to a larger stick because of the reduced frequency of smoking opportunities. What he's really asking is: What cigars should I try as a beginner? 1st scenario: I'd say a 50cab of a double corona. Answer to his real question: Buy 5 packs of popular brands and formats. Know that some of these are preferred with some age on them (ex. RASS). At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter because you'll get bit and start ordering multiple boxes and wind up starting your own collection. I'll tell you this - If I were giving my friend their first CC, I'd probably give them a Monte 4. That's a pretty solid starting point IMO. Good Luck OP.
