I enjoy the berry notes in the exhibicion 4... but i favor the petite corona or corona size.

How does the R & J petite corona fair with berry notes? Thanks!

My sentiments exactly.   I've picked up a couple of boxes of the RyJ PC looking for the same flavors as the Ex 4 but they are missing that same berry intensity.   They are a fine smoke, I'm glad I got them, but they're not the same.

IMHO:  If you want the berry notes of the EX 4,  you have to smoke the EX 4.

I think the Cazzadores has the same berry-esque-ness   but it's masked with rough edges, nicotine kick and a lack of refinement.

I've never tasted any berry in a RyJ cigar… wood, gingerbread, dried fruit, moist soil, leather, etc. yes…

I think the best RYJ is the Churchill with the red wrappers.  After that my tastes lean towards the exhibition #4 and the cazadore.  The PC comes in after that.  Though that is not to imply it's a bad cigar, certainly enjoyable.  My brother wanted a box of the mille fleurs and man that box was a flavor bomb.

Thats too bad.

Was looking at the Cazzadores but not wanting that big nicotine hit.

Thanks!

I have been tempted at those but my preference are smaller rg.... but maybe give them a shot sometime

If by berry you mean cherry, I had plenty in Short Churchill, first box bought about 8 years ago. Second box was a little underwhelming, cherry was nowhere to be found. I think it depends on the wrapper and maybe crop year and probably filler as well, same viola can have different taste even within the same box. I got myself a box of RyJ PC as well, haven't had a chance to try it yet.

Yes, cherry is what i meant... thank you. Yes, that flavor undertone has not been consistent. Also, i have a box of no 4 that have some under filled cigars.... and those, as you would think, are not good. That is why i originally asked about  smaller rg sizes... as in my experience they have less construction issues

It is present in all the churchills and variations I think. Strangly I had the biggest punch of cherry out of the wide and the petite ch. Besides the Ex. No4. of course. That cherry flavour is associated with the redish rosado wrapper. That is what you should pay attention to get the cherry. Cazadores has changed quite a bit lately. Still strong but the cherry is a lot more present in there than ever before. Love it. That is my fav from the marca line

The pc's ... ryj has 4-5 pc ish format, no one knows why while brilliant other pc's are cut off. (Upmann, hoyo du prince just to name 2017 deletions) Even though I like ryj pc s they are not as special or complex than the rest of the marca. It could be the reason to have lack of talk abot em...

Ex#4 has got scores of berry/cherry.   Cazadores has accents of almost raspberry or strawberry, but it's more in the background.

I've found the churchills to have it sporadically and the PC to pretty much not have it at all.

Try them, you'll be surprised.

The Ex#4 is a nice somewhat complex cigar.  The Cazzie is very rough, not complex and IMO doesn't really represent the RyJ marca flavor wise. I tried them and definitely don't like them. Very much like the Ex#4.

I respectfully disagree. From '15 they have changed a lot. more complex, the cherry is present, but yes. Still strong. Leather on full force. Cherry and leather do represent the marca base dna. Smoked a few cabs to judge, not few cigars... have more in the humi. Lovely.

+1 the short churchill was an instant early fav for me. But very hit and miss over the years.

R&J is the most overlooked marca IMO.  For their history and all that; there's barely any threads on them.  Outside Cedros & Cazadores; very little raves or rants.  The Churchill was "the Churchill" for Habanos for long time; even that one is seldom discussed now.

True. In the realm of CC's, you don't really hear much about this marca anymore. Compared to Cohiba, Partagas, Montecristo, it pales in comparison for one of the "big brands".

Reminder that the RyJ Churchill was Rob's COY for 2015.

These have turned around in quality over the last couple of years, so I can see how he'd rank them high.  I don't think there is as many regular Churchill vitola smokers could be a reason for the light discussion on them.  Just as it's pretty quiet when talking about Monarch's other common Churchills.

For me, R&J is my favorite marca. I have the Ex 4s, Churchill, but the one I'm deepest on is my favorite CC period...the Belicoso.

I have a gorgeous box of petit churchills. Pure toasted tobacco and that cherry/berry flavor.
