Singles drawer arrangement help.

Recommended Posts

I need some help from the community.  I was rearranging singles today and it was driving me absolutely crazy!  Does some sort of standard arrangement exist which allows for different sizes to go in certain areas.  Like say you need a 2 7 inch by 5 inch sections and 2 6 inch by 4 inch.  I have a bunch of dividers and can divide them many different ways.  Some pics of others singles drawers may be helpful.  Any suggestions on how to set up the dividers in the drawers to maximize storage would be appreciated. Thank you.

I usually put longer cigars on the bottom and separate them by brand. And then just keep layering by length. There's no right way per se.

I do this as well. With the only exception being if I have an aged cigar with a super fragile wrapper

So years ago when I was in my crazy days I would take the cedar sheets from my boxes and cut/write on them info like the box code and arrival date and use these to divide up my singles.

Then as time went on I just toss the last few from any box into one of my desktops and enjoy the mystery when I pull something out to smoke :)

Sounds like the effects of fatherhood. :)

To be honest, when I get singles (only from the Christmas Sampler), I put the new ones on top and leave them.  I do not organize them as I know what is what. "if I can say I remember" :rotfl: No help I am sure but I do not worry about my singles.  I worried about "my singleness" before I was married but that is about as far as I went.:D

Let us know what method you come up with.  I would be interested to know.

Put a chocolate bar next to your Montecristo, some stone fruit next to your SLR, a little bit of fresh minerally soil near your Bolivars, a couple cherries by your RyJ. Oh yeah, a dallop of peanut butter next to your Cuabas. Freshly mowed grass by your Cohibas... and so on as needed.

This will both serve as a way to help visually organize your singles as well as flavor enhance while they wait for their chance to be smoked.

On another note... There is a certain amount of pride in the chaos of a 'singles collection.' I am quite proud of mine!

There was a day when I printed labels, attached to business card sized 'stock' of cedar sheets. It contained the information about a group of 'singles' that could be found in the divided area. It had information about the cigar, date, box code and vendor. I must have discarded most of this over a decade ago.

Frankly, if the cigar has a centroid near 42 ring, I am guessing it is going to be a good cigar, regardless of what it is (was). I don't care what the box, band or box code said. All that matters is how it tastes when I light it up.

Coding cigars is likely a Camp W... thing! As a counselor, I delegate this to the plebes.

Thanks for advice. I fully expected @PigFish to offer some witty words of wisdom, and he didn't disappoint.  Feng Shui--all cigars pointing toward Casa Del Pig.  Done!  Thanks for input!

Don't point the pointy end of pyramid/figurado cigars at Piggy! That's bad feng shui!!

Yep... I have a suggestion. It is clear you have too many singles. Pack em up and send them to me, and I'll take care of them for you. :hungry:

Long ones (6.5-7inch) go on the bottom row

Mediums ones (5-6.5inch) go on the middle

Small ones (under 4.5inch) go on top

Easier to see, easier to get to specific cigars if needed

I don't organize by marca if we're only talking one draw.
Unless you can have a whole Cohiba draw and a whole Montecristo draw, they all go in together

Forget about dividers. You loose more room in the draw than youd think

I like having to dig through random draws every once in a while and finding some old cigar I forgot I had

After years of playing this game, let me tell you where I ended up:

Get rid of the dividers!

I've tested it many times and different blends don't seem to influence each other when stored together.  They might share aromas before lighting, but once the cigar is lit, it will be what you expect from that blend/brand.

All dividers do is take up valuable real estate.

Arrange your singles drawer in any way that pleases you when you look at them. There's no right and wrong way to arrange, IMO.

Ok so I have decided to take the advice of more experienced Keepers of the Leaf and do away with the dividers.  I already have 4 other drawers of singles in a different humidor without dividers.  Now to figure out the best way to maximize air flow and space.  Seems longer at bottom, shorter at top might work well.  Yeah it's a bit anal I know but that's kind of the nature of storing cigars in general.  Thanks for the input.  I will publish the final results.

I am 100% singles now and while dividers do take up a lot of space, they are very good for grouping various size cigars such that it limits sticks from sliding from back2back, & side2side in the drawers causing damage. I have a 100% CC drawer and then the rest of the drawers are set-up by my perceived strength/body..

Ok here's the most recent pics of three of them (I have 7 total-2 are NCs).  In process of rearranging them to be more organized for better airflow.  I noticed some of the sticks in the middle of the piles in the top picture seemed fairly damp.  This is part of the motivation for a better arrangement for better airflow.  And removing the dividers I think will help some.  I've also been considering boxing them all up in empty Cabs (which I have already done for some sticks).  For some reason the singles drawer thing grates my nerves--and I am not a super organized person.

EDIT:  The washer and dryer are pretty far from the Humidors it was just the most convenient spot to put those 2 for a pic!
