Fuzz AI Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 This Oct/Nov I'll be travelling to the States for 2-3 weeks before heading off to Cuba. It's been over 15 years since my last US vacation, and I'm looking for some suggestions on what to see. Will be going to LA, LV, Dallas, Tampa/St Peterburg and Miami. Any suggestions are welcome. Also, if any members would like to meet up for a few drinks and smokes, that too would be great.
NSXCIGAR Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 Sounds like quite a US tour! I can only recommend things in the LA area. If you have only one or two days, I'd just check out the different areas--Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Malibu, Venice, Santa Monica. If you have a few more days, I'd hit Universal Studios, the Getty Museums and the Queen Mary in Long Beach. If you're into wine, there's quite a few vineyards in the Riverside County area (about an hour south of LA.) 1
Habana Mike Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 Come to Atlanta. Not much to see but you'll have some fine food, drink and smoke! 1
Fuzz AI Posted July 23, 2016 Author Posted July 23, 2016 My schedule is: LA - 24th Oct to 27th Oct (hiring a car to drive down to LV and sightsee on the way) LV - 29th Oct to 31st Oct Dallas - 1st Nov to 4th Nov Tampa/St Petersburg - 5th Nov to 7th Miami - 7th Nov to 10th Nov
JohnS Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 Universal Studios was great during the week when I went in 2011 with my family (not too many crowds!). You love your wine @Fuzz so a trip to some wine fields surely would be up your alley. Then again, Mike's invitation to Atlanta sounds tempting! 1
wea1959 Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 Tampa/St Pete St. Pete Two under appreciated jewels are the Salvador Dali Museum and the Chihuly Collection at the Morean Art Center, both located in the arts section of St Pete. The Dali Museum is the largest collection outside of Europe. If you have a car, a nearby local restaurant is Chattaways. Fuzz AI Posted July 23, 2016 Author Posted July 23, 2016 Fantastic! Will definitely try to get to Wat Buddhist Temple.
Fuzz AI Posted July 23, 2016 Author Posted July 23, 2016 Too many places to see, too little time. I would have loved to go back to NYC again.
garbandz Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 The Anthony Bourdain series has segments on several of your destinations. if you can get Net Flicks, peruse the episodes relevant to your trip. You will get real information and an idea of some alternative sights/trips. The LA segment is the most surprising. New Orleans segment really appeals to me.......

May find our paths crossing while you're there. Imagine you're heading to Havana after so I'll catch up with you there if not before. Enjoy and safe travels!
Fuzz AI Posted July 24, 2016 Author Posted July 24, 2016 Correct, heading to Havana after Miami, so definitely will meet there if not before.
SigloVI Posted July 24, 2016 Posted July 24, 2016 How about this as an alternate trip...LA, Vegas, Chicago, NY, Miami
Fuzz AI Posted July 25, 2016 Author Posted July 25, 2016 Unfortunately, no changes to the itinerary. I'm meeting friends in Dallas and Tampa/St Pete that I haven't seen in over a decade. Can't really ditch them.
Fuzz AI Posted August 11, 2016 Author Posted August 11, 2016 Finally getting around to booking my US accom. Any suggestions on where to stay in LA?
ImTripN2 Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 The LA metro area is enormous, and insanely busy at all hours. Just getting around can take up a big chunk of your day. IMHO you would be better off deciding what you want to see first, then find accommodations that are convenient to that agenda. And check with Trip Advisor before booking, it can be a great resource for finding hotels and sightseeing. 1
