gojira Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 After a long hunt and a lot of "sorry sold out" responses (and an issue regarding a refund that finally came in a few days ago) I received this: The pictures speak for themselves. In addition to that there are 4 with a cracked foot, one with a wrapper that's coming loose and one that is under filled. It took me a little under an hour to clean them and repair the damaged ones (I'm no plastic surgeon but they are good to be smoked). Here's the result: The place where I purchased them had a few more boxes in stock last week and I'm itching to purchase another one. But not without asking them politely to open a couple to check if they are damaged. Would you? 2
HarveyBoulevard Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 Your work looks great. If the price was right and you don't mind the work, I'd buy them.

To be fair that could happen to any vendor and can be cleaned up like you have but I wouldn't accept those cigars personally. 1
seattledude Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 If it was me and I got cigars with this much mold I would send them back for refund. You are brave man. 1
CigarSeeker Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 They are sold out everywhere.. I been looking as well.. Like others said, if you don't mind the work and the price is right... Don't wait, buy them now! 1
gojira Posted April 28, 2016 Author Posted April 28, 2016 Your work looks great. If the price was right and you don't mind the work, I'd buy them. Thank you! Cleaning them was actually quite pleasing since the result was rewarding. I will decide if I'll pull the trigger on another box tomorrow after a good nights sleep.
dflan82 Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 Your work looks great. If the price was right and you don't mind the work, I'd buy them. Agreed. You really can't get these that easily (as you pointed out) so as long as the price isn't exorbitant, I would throw on a ball game or some tunes and clean/repair them as you have. 1

If so, tell the vendor to inspect them prior - send them one of your pics otherwise if buying in person I would request to open the box and inspect, really shouldn't be an issue and if it is, that's an issue... 2
topdiesel Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 I don't see anything wrong with those cigars. That amount of white mold and damage wouldn't bother me unless you paid a serious premium. If the price isn't crazy and you like them, then buy them. If you smoke one of the ones you have and don't like it at all then I wouldn't buy any more. If you like them and fear they will not exist in the future then you will regret not buying more. 1
PigFish Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 Everything about buying cigars online is about risk and reward. How could one answer that question for you without knowing the facts? If these were not 'must have' cigars for you, then why pursue them? If you are willing to accept what you have, and am happy, then why not buy more? What did they cost? Frankly, I don't really want to know, but asked the question rhetorically. Is there not current stock at the same price (quality stock, from the care, damage and storage aspect) that would not satisfy you? Is there not a better choice out there rather than these that have obviously experienced neglect? You have to answer these questions for yourself because I cannot. If these cigar cost me $50.00, I would buy the rest of them too! So to me it is always risk verses reward, risk verses value. If these were anywhere near a retail price (or more) I would say the hell with it and buy some du Prince form our host (or others) and some du Depute. I see no reason to buy neglected stock unless it is cheap, and I mean dirt cheap! My 2 cts. -Piggy 4

In this case they are not and it took me a while to finally locate some. I was a little enraged when I opened the box but after cleaning they look quite good and I'm actually glad to have them. 2
CigarSeeker Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 My only concern if I was you, is mixing them with my current stock. Can the mold strike those sticks again and actually spread to the rest of your stock?

Can the mold strike those sticks again and actually spread to the rest of your stock? I'm not to worried about that since the mold probably won't come back. I'll just have to check on them more often than I do on my other boxes. 2
Smallclub Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 You can't find Hoyo des Dieux in Paris France? That's very surprising…
gojira Posted April 28, 2016 Author Posted April 28, 2016 You can't find Hoyo des Dieux in Paris France? That's very surprising… None left. I found some aged ones at La Civette but that's it.
El Presidente Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 You did a great job cleaning them up The white mold shouldn't come back. That would not be a concern of mine. A few damaged sticks at the foot is common enough from a timber SLB. You are now a client of the vendor. Touch base with him/her, and ask for a photo of the next box before purchase. They should agree. The fact that he/she has any at all, I suspect means that they do not ship internationally all that often. Maybe ask for some bubblewrap at the foot of the cigars next time. 3

RickHendeson Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 Maybe ask for some bubblewrap at the foot of the cigars next time. When the boxes contain bubblewrap -- foot or band -- is that you, HSA, or both?

kuma Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 I'd do the same, clean them up and go back for more if any more are around. 1
jackattack Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 Wow! That doesn't even look like the same box. Nice job on the clean up.... 1
