Ahahahah... why!?!?

Sometimes when people mention drugs or gambling in threads i can't see that thread because of the filter... but the site hasn't been blocked itself.

The Airforce computers at work here are asking for the site to be classified as something i just keep putting it off. I assume it's just a matter of time for me at work until it's blocked.

I couldn't access it in Columbia. Which, of course, makes perfect sense in the country that spawned Pablo Escobar, that famous, er, cigar lord...

Lots of these filtering software packages block tobacco alcohol and fairly harmless items like that (but terribly un PC). Either that or they've just chosen to block forums as there is a responsibility that could come back to the employer if an employee posts something on a public forum using their network.

When I worked for an American company a few years ago, search about cigars were blocked but you can get into gunstores websites no problem at all (right to bear arms but no smoke cigars I guess)!

Same with my work. Got a new server and lo, blocked for alcohol, guns, anything tobacco. Have to 'visit clients' early on Fridays now! I looked into how to circumvent the security cop settings, but didn't have time to do it properly. Advice and instructions welcome! C'mon...help some brothers buy cigars on company time!!! lol3.gif

Will never happen at my place of work, I handle the "IT" as one of my duties...though, that's nothing more than setting up a couple of computers, a network, and making sure the internet is working properly...ok.gif

In the mid 90's I worked as a tech for Gateway 2000 when they had the cow spotted boxes. We had free reign of the internet and were encouraged to go wherever so long as it wasn't porn. Wasn't much social networking then except maybe messenger but we could install anything on our computers and occasionally we would get a virus. When that happened there would be about a dozen people what would take that system and figure out how the virus worked and figure out ways to defeat it and kill it sharing the intel with antivirus companies we had deals with. Learning how to hack and blocking hackers was encouraged, supported and shared. Company took good care of us and we didn't dare do anything that would hurt the company because we were the company. About 1998 everything changed with the financing of computers and accountability went down hill. I mean, I had IT come and set a box in my cube and left it there for almost a year. I used it as a foot rest and decided to break the seal and see what was inside and it was a $30k server! Turned it in and no one knew it was missing. Anyway, so much has changed since then. Now days even going to an outside site for personal reasons will get someone fired.

Well they blocked Gmail & Hotmail even, so we complained a bit, because we need gmail for our salespeople's maps (we have to know which salesperson and what areas they work in throughout the state). So our IT guys informed us that this has been coming down the pipeline, because some some people at our plants had been playing World Of Warcraft on company time.

However, he did give us gmail back, and so far I am on here again....we'll see how long it lasts.
