Smoked my second to last one from last 2002 box yesterday. Glorious hour of rich gingerbread citrus and cedar flavour, with a big ligero kick in the last inch. My favourite cigar for a sunny afternoon with a white dessert wine (Sauternes, Muscat, botrytis etc)

Question is, what do i replace it with now for a similar experience???

Do i sellotape 3 ERDM demi-tasse together end to end? teacher.giflookaround.gif

I need to hear the collective wisdom of the habanos tribe... any suggestions?

Unfortunately, the LGC MdO #1 was the only cigar ever produced in the Deliciados Extra vitola post-revolution.

Closest thing you're going to get to it is a gran panatela size--Laguito #1 or Laguito Especial.

You might want to look into recent Trinidad Fundadores--Rob just came across a sweet batch a few days ago and may still have some PSP/HQ around. When they're on, they're quite good.

i still got 22 from my 2001 box. suckers are truly full flavored for their age. but sure tasty as heck. i was thinking about smoking a fundadores tonight or siglo iv .. but what nsx said, the fundadores is close to the lgc med 1 size for sure. i dont know how they smoke yet...

Fundadores? Seriously? It's a completely different cigar on every point…

The closest blend (although not the same "tempo") would be the Médaille d'Or No. 2 (a bit milder) or the No.4 (more punchy).

Good post. Crap I only have a few left from my 2002 box as well and I'm gonna cry once they're gone. I'm thinking the only cigar out there now close to its size are the lanceros type cigars. What about the hoyo gourmets? They should bring this size back.

Nothing. The new #4's don't resemble the profile of the older blends. It's a shame the brand is dead... REs don't count.

I'm aware of that. I in no way was making a direct comparison to the MdO #1 and the Fundadores. Obviously, the MdO #4 and #2 are the closest in blend but I had assumed the OP was aware of that already. As far as a similar size, I know it's a stretch, but the Fundadores are probably the closest to it for a gran panetela. It was more of an alternative suggestion.

I should have been a little more clear in my post

Got any MdO No 3s? Similar, if narrower. ...

That was my thought as well...but was to scared to mention it in fear of being stoned to death..wink.png

LGC #4 comes closest.

This, and I must say, I am not sure, whether current production No 4s might not be even better ten years down the road!

Very true, who knows how they will be ten years from now and if they will even compare to the no. 1. So far they seem great now and my guess is that they should develop over the years into finer cigars.

Yep ..have two boxes from 02 rarely smoke them though . Having 3 4 and 1 all from 2002 I think 1 and 3 are the closest ...to me the LGC 2 is completely different ..so if I were looking for a substitute for 1 ...I would go with 3 ..hole.giffootball.gif

I don't even tend to disagree with you on that, West, but along the lines of that logic, I'd rather recommend replacing the box with another of 2002 No. 1s...nyah.gif

Smoking my first LGC M #4 right now and it is astounding. Only other I've had of the brand is a few 2001ish M #2 which, while nice, seemed to lack the citrusy, floral cream I'm enthralled with at the moment.

I will always feel a deficit for not buying the M #1 when it was in production. It sounded fantastic!
