Hey fellas. Just received two boxes of these by mistake. Same box code (GEO MAY 14), both smell great and construction on both boxes look good. But you can see the wrappers are a little different in color. Having never smoked this cigar before, and only wanting to keep one box, which is most representative of what this cigar should be? Thanks!

Judging by the color, as transformed by your camera and my monitor, the box on the left looks closest to the rosado wrapper color that many seek from Romeo y Julieta. (I assume you'll be gently inspecting the construction and aroma as well before choosing which to return...)

My advice, send both back and get a 50 Cab instead. The RYJ Ex4s are superb in Cabs, not so in dress boxes. Don't ask me why, its been a favourite of mine for years.

But seriously my preferences aside, wrappers add very little flavour to a cigar. Visually, I would go for the one on the right.

Cheers,

Keith..

Keep both - they've braved the journey from the farms to the rolling tables to the warehouses and finally to you, it would be a shame to turn one away.

They can age quite well too.

Not true. There are "bad cabs" as well. And the cab was discontinued 5 years ago, it has became very HTF.

So you're basically telling the OP to send back 2 boxes, get his money back, and go hunting a discontinued item. Great advice jester.gif

Thank you everyone for your input. Decided on the more Rosado-y box on the left. Am smoking one now and it's quite nice. Could probably use some more down time, but these will all be consumed this week at our club social. I think the guys will enjoy it.

There are roughly 67 shades of wrapper color. You will see many different shades from box to box for a certain cigar. This is perfectly normal and I really don't think the rolling factories cherry pick wrapper color for a certain marca and vitola. This would be impractical.

Rob, Next time I am down in Brizzie, I will bring some Dark RYJ Ex4s from a Cab I have. You will come across to the dark side, oh yes.

To be honest, wrappers make very little difference to the overall taste of a cigar. I must say, a nice oily wrapper wins me over versus dark or light colours.

If you have paid for the 2 boxes, keep them and let us know what you think!!!

Where in Asia are you located?? I am glad to fly in and assist in tasting ;-)

Keith.

I respectfully disagree, wrapper flavor can seriously effect overall taste.

Those are custom rolls, not regular production Habanos. Comparing apples to oranges.

The left does look more like the "traditional" rosado that many want to see in Ex4s, but I bet both would be fantastic!

As long as the wrappers look nice I'm happy & those boxes look good to me. Having to choose I would still go for the one on the left as well, but it's just a matter of personal taste (I always look for a colorado-redish wrapper).

Cheers!
