Webbo Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 I want to buy 25 to smoke now but every other thread on here says lay down for 5 years which ain't gonna happen with me. So if I cannot get hold of aged stock what are the tips for buying, what should I look for, wrapper, colour etc that will give me the best shot of a decent CoRo straight away? Yes I absolutely realise that buying from the Prez and his team gives me the best chance and this is my main method but I am often flying around Asia and the Middle East so there are duty free options available that are sometimes a year or 2 old and I can account for as "customer gifts". Anything I should avoid, including specific years or box codes. In summary what are the CoRo do's and dont's please? 1
Destino30 Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 I've been smoking 2014 CoRo and it's been great. I haven't noticed anything different about the wrapper color than older CoRo that I have. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
joeypots Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 It's always about what you like, always. Buy a box and smoke through them slowly to see how they mature.
santela Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 I don't think we should be trapped in any set of "rules". After all it comes down to what you like. If you wanna smoke the CoRos ROTT you should do it. Personally my CoRo was smoking great at one year old, and even the Prez said fresh CoRos have been better the last couple of years. In terms of box codes I would pick up any MUO I see..
RijkdeGooier Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 With Cohiba there are no shortcuts imo
markmurase Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 The CoRo's from recent years seem to have been smoking well while young. It's always a lottery with any box of Cubans. especially when buying from the duty-free stores, but I think you should be OK. Pick a box where the wrappers have consistent colour and a nice oily sheen. If you can find any with BTO code, they would be the ones to get. 1
dangolf18 Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 Current production CoRo don't need any more ageing in my opinion...at least that's been my experience with MUO '14 stock. 1
bergaler Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 This thread just makes me feel worse for not getting on in time for any of the recent CoRo boxes that have come up lately. Ugh Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

jdo2110 Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 Time takes the edges off. Maybe pronounces the profile flavors a bit more. There is no doubt that Coro's evolve with time, but I am not one of those in the camp that feels it's absolutely necessary. In your travels, I'd be willing to bet that you will come across some late '13 through '14 boxes. If those should happen to have a BTO or MUO code, I think you're good to go. Absolutely make sure they have a little dry box time if they are kept in the high 60s or 70rh. A wet Cohiba really brings out that youth that so many people try to avoid. I have some mid '14s, and it's hard to keep my hands off of them. Just my .02. Have fun experimenting ; ) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
SmittyinAZ Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 If put up here, DO buy them. If put up here, DON'T pass on them. As many have stated, your palate determines when they are ready.
hjmclain22 Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 I have some OLM AGO 2014. I think they taste great but the smoke could smooth out at bit. I'm gonna lay 'em down.
saintsmokealot Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 I have a LUB 14 box that rivals dare I say exceed my MUO 14 boxes.
rtrimbath Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 I've bought three boxes from FOH in the past year and plan to smoke one box at 1 year, one at 3 years, and one at 5 years. I feel that way I'll have all my bases covered. I smoked one from the 1 year box, and it definitely needs some time down. I'll try again in 6 months. Box Codes: LAO JUL 14 EAG AGO 14 MUO MAY 15 I'm currently smoking from the EAG box.
joeypots Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 Just for full disclosure. I'm currently into a box of 25 EUP 5/08 and they are stunning. I had to learn to leave them alone, young COROs are nothing compared to ones after 5 years of box age. Find out for your self and smoke a box over the long term. I got to the place where I leave all cohibas alone and smoke other cigars while I wait because I think the Cohibas are wasted if smoked too soon. Put the Coros down and smoke EPI#2s while you wait. They are better young and a lot less $$$. One can spend a bunch o' money on this Cuban cigar thing. 1
LLC Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 Buy two boxes, one to put down and one to smoke through slowly. Form your own opinion, it's the only one that matters. 3
earthson Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 I like it when the wrappers have an orange hue to them. A nice oily sheen won't hurt anything, either, but the oilier, generally the longer they take to cure out, IMO. 1
