lookin to buy some RyJs in addition to some cazadores that I just purchased and I figured I should buy the flagship of the marca. Only question is do I buy tubos or no tubos? Is there a considerable difference in the flavors?

Thanks

How do the Churchill compare to exhibicion no. 4 which happen to be on 24:24 today? I'm looking for something that really captures what RYJ is all about? Thanks again.

I would not consider any Romeo y Julieta vitola unless the wrapper was a rosado shade and it therefore had hints of cherry/anise etc. That's why I'd only purchase this marca through FoH 24:24 sales from hereon in. Otherwise, I've found them to be woody or one-dimensional toasted tobacco-flavoured. However, this is just my personal preference, please don't let my opinion dissuade you.

I would really echo the comments from JohnS here. I've purchased most RyJ blind up to now and it's really hit or miss on the quality. I've been more likely find good Ex4s than Churchills and having had good ones of each I the the Ex4 is far superior.

When you get a pale wrapper on RyJ you might as well smoke hay.

Also, I personally think the tubos are the same as the non-tubos. Might be different if you're considering aging them, but 1-2 years old I don't think there'a difference. Not worth the extra money unless you want the travel case.

I've got a PSP RYJ Churchill tubos box BUM MAY 14 and a HQ churchills dress box MOP DIC 14. Right now, I prefer the tubos, but I don't know if that is because of the different factories or the 7 month difference in boxes.

Laurence smokes the tubos. I'm gonna buy 10 tubos and take 5 out see it makes any difference. Hopefully some Churchills will make it to the 24:24.

Ugh, I detest that man

Yeah but you can't deny he has passion.

I agree. I think he's quite knowledgeable even though he mauls his cigars.

Of course Rob added aged Churchill tubos to the 24:24 today...good man!

So did Jared, doesn't mean it's right.

Haaaaaaaaaaa!

The way he lights it, then hot boxes the heck out of it, and finally lipping the thing up....he kills me. I do enjoy seeing what he has to say though. Btw, I've picked up some nice aged stock from him.

In some of YouTube reviews I can't work out whether he is smoking the cigar or trying to eat it. It cracks me up. He is really knowledgable though and I like the vids.

Haha...so I'm not the only one that thinks like this. I watch his videos with morbid fascination

My preference is just the opposite. The lighter the wrapper, the more I've enjoyed the cigar, with very few exceptions.

To the OP....If you plan on smoking them in the next couple years, no difference, same cigar...other than the tubes are round cigars and the DB version is squished. If you plan on aging (min 7 years, preferably 10+) I do so with the turbos.

I should have clarified. I don't necessarily mean the color, I'd say more in terms of oil. It looks pale, as though it's completely devoid of oil and sort of papery, if that makes sense.

People know. RyJ Churchill aren't cigars to invest in anymore. They've been dead since 1998.

You should just buy Cohiba Robustos.

Not sure the rosado wrapper is what constitutes the cherry/anise flavors... more the filler blend I'd think.

I don't believe this is the case somehow. I will let you know how the aged tubos from the 24:24 are when they arrive. I think they're from '05.

As you move through the RyJ "Churchill" line (Wide, Short, etc.) do you find the flavor profile to differ from the flagship Churchill size? Of course this assumes comparing similar ages and factories.

Mike, I don't doubt you for a second my friend. I've just never experienced the lovely cherry/anise flavours from a RyJ vitola that had a pale wrapper. I won't give up trying though, as discovery is one of the joys of our hobby!
