dangolf18 Posted July 18, 2015 Posted July 18, 2015 I have a 500ct Havana Footlocker that I keep 5-6 boxes in. I've recently placed 9 large Boveda 65% packs in it. How long can i expect them to last? Also, what would be the best way to arrange them? Thanks.
JohnnyCigar Posted July 18, 2015 Posted July 18, 2015 Dan, I would space the bovedas out. They can be touching the cigars, so no worry there.
smh Posted July 18, 2015 Posted July 18, 2015 They'll actually last forever as you can recharge them. I keep a handful in my humidor a and another handful in a Tupperware with a small container of distillers water. Every 3-4 months I swap them. I've had the same packs for a couple years. 1
FalseCast Posted July 18, 2015 Posted July 18, 2015 Depends several factors, especially how well your humidor seals. The better the seal - the longer they last. The packs definitely last longer in plastic containers (tupperdors/coolidors) versus cedar lined humidors.
hoffmr3 Posted July 18, 2015 Posted July 18, 2015 My 300ct. humidor leaks air like an old man bending over. I keep 6 packs in there; 2 on each of the three levels. I also keep 6 other packs in reserve. In my NY summer (hot and humid), I have to swap out packs once every other month. Once every other week in winter (cold and dry). I toss the old packs into a sealed plastic container filled with about an inch of distilled water for a couple of days to recharge (directly into the water), then into the plastic bag. I'm probably more aggressive with swapping mine out, but once those packs get crunchy, they're done for. I've been cycling mine like this for 2 years without any problem. 1
nicaraguanlubber Posted July 18, 2015 Posted July 18, 2015 I rotate mine every 3 months like clock work and I re-charge them once or twice if they hold up. I used to be a beads guy but, for me, Boveda is no muss, no fuss. 1
MIKA27 Posted July 18, 2015 Posted July 18, 2015 If they're in an air tight container such as Tupperware, they can last a very long time. I've had my Bovedas in Tupperware for almost 2 years and they're like new. 1

I've had my Bovedas in Tupperware for almost 2 years and they're like new. Agreed. In a sealed tupperware container they do indeed last a long time, longer than 3 months (dependant on your ambient humidity). Interestingly, Boveda have recently released a tupperware product themselves where they claim that 2 of their 60 gram packs are good for 12 months! http://www.bovedainc.com/store/tobacco/boveda-acrylic-humidor/ 1
egoo33 Posted July 18, 2015 Posted July 18, 2015 forever, buy a brick of them keep what you need in your humidor when they get crispy throw them in a tupperware with a shot glass of distilled water and let them get full again, i have been doing this for 2 years and have only bought them once.
phlee Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 What would you do when in climate of high humidity? My bovedas are now all overcharged and no longer work well
TCContender Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 What would you do when in climate of high humidity? My bovedas are now all overcharged and no longer work well I used unscented DampRid in my walk-in this summer when humidity was unusually high. Ultimately I ended up putting in a dehumidifier in my basement to keep ambient humidity to circa 40%. No longer have that issue.

As for your questions: Where you are located in the states, that might be a difficult question to answer. The footlocker isn't as good in keeping in humidity so you might only get 2-3 months out of them. In my footlockers from humid, little Toronto, I've only needed to recharge the Bovedas once this year. Personally, I just line the edges of my box with the Bovedas. That seems to do the trick. As far away from the other packs as possible.
dangolf18 Posted July 19, 2015 Author Posted July 19, 2015 Haha yea. I've just taken them up. Where I am, humidity in my humidor actually stays pretty constant. Don't have to fill up the humidifier that much. Thanks for the advice. Hey Dan, how've you been? Surprised to see a question like this coming from you . Did you only take up the Bovedas now? My tupperware containers are very similar where I have an elevated bottom which is where I place my Bovedas. 1
