EuroTrash Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 When do you break into the next box of a given stick? Do you always wait to finish the current box? I have a box of PSD4 I am loving right now and have finished the top layer. I've got another great (though different wrapper) looking box of PSD4 waiting. I'm tempted to start the new box and save half the first one since they were so great but it somehow feels wrong. Anyone else have this OCD? Ever have multiple boxes of the same stick on the go?
Habana Mike Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 I do have a few where one's a bit older then the other (PSD4, CoRo, Sir Winstons for example). Like you suggest, I'll start smoking from a fresher box to preserve the others. 2
LLC Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 If I find a particular box is great and I feel has good aging potential I will put it into long term storage when I get down to around six left. I've been doing that since around 2006 and still have some of those cigars left. So I do have quite a few cigars with multiple boxes open.
earthson Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Depends on the smoke. Some I want to save a fiver back for a long-term aging project and others I just finish one box and go on to the next.
jimjim Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 If the boxes are too far apart in age I would just crack the next one after I finish the current one. You can always smoke from both at the same time, just to see where they are holding.
stunod Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 I have about 10 boxes of Monte PE's and I smoke from multiple boxes. I like to sample from each to see how the age difference change the cigar. On cigars that I have say only 2 boxes, I will smoke down one box complete then go to the next. 2
leftimatic Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 As soon as the 30 day resting period is over. Sometimes it's a wonder I hold out that long.

maxcjs0101 Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 I buy one box and i'll think hmm probably i should get another in case this is good. And when i get another i'll think hey, probably i can find samples first?
JohnS Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Depends on the smoke. For me it depends on the cigar as some become my 'go to' cigar for the month and others I smoke every so often as I rest them to see how they are coming along.
subport Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 No hard rules for me. Just whenever I want to compare I open a new and smoke from an old too. Have multiple boxes and cabs opened. When something is just smoking great I go and finish it, hehe
DoubleDD Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Depends. If a new box comes in and is smoking better than an older box, I'll start smoking from the new box more frequently.

TCContender Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 I have yet to put down an entire box of 25 cigars for long-term aging, it is always 24 (or 23 in the case of Trinis). I am not sure why I have to sample one from each box after the obligatory two month resting period, but I always do. That said, I will only have two boxes max from each marca in rotation at a time. This is partially due to the cramped size of my walk-in, but mostly because I have very random tastes and a variety of options available.
