bugg4672 Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 I read this article today from Bloomberg News. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/videos/b/18df062b-be34-428a-9a33-3f943cace0ce "The worlds most expensive cigar". "At a price of $1000 per stick, "His Majesty's Reserve" is the most expensive cigar in the world. Gurkha Chief Executive Officer Kaizad Hansotia says the "HMR" is enjoyed by Bill Clinton and Matthew McConaughey." Well if its good enough for an X Pres. and a pot head its gotta be good. I love Gurkhas but a $1000 a stick HOLY SH$# are you kidding me, just because its soaked in old Cognac. The most I have paid for a cigar was $225 for 5 Opus X LFMF. What is the most you have paid, or would pay for a cigar?
Popular Post garbandz Posted May 11, 2015 Popular Post Posted May 11, 2015 "Gurkha Chief Executive Officer Kaizad Hansotia says the "HMR" is enjoyed by Bill Clinton and Matthew McConaughey." He has lied about other things ,too......... And when has either of these two ever shown any knowledge about cigars? (here's where you make your Monica jokes.......) After over 40 years of enjoying cigars I believe you can find an excellent cigar for ten dollars or less. I also believe that some people will pay stupid $$$ to be seen consuming in an excessive manner, much to my entertainment....... 5
ToroRph Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 $45 for single Cohiba Esplendido at LCDH Cancun circa 1995. I'd say my limit now is $15 for a single
bugg4672 Posted May 12, 2015 Author Posted May 12, 2015 @ToroRph Im with you $15-20 is my limit also, also if I was going to be influenced into buying a cigar that a celebrity was smoking it would be John Wayne, not only was he cool he kicked ass and with a $2 Marsh Wheeling cigar in his mouth.
bugg4672 Posted May 12, 2015 Author Posted May 12, 2015 if I was going to be influenced into buying a cigar that a celebrity was smoking it would be John Wayne, not only was he cool he kicked ass and with a $2 Marsh Wheeling cigar in his mouth. Sorry I was going by today's cost, back then Marsh's were what .50, maybe free for Wayne for being a movie star.
RickHendeson Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 It's all relative, of course . . . I try not to break the $10 barrier. That might change if I was in a B&M where I could scrutinize/sample the goods, but, alas . . .
StingMeadery Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 $350.00 for a Vintage Dunhill, which was a lemon... I guess too much for me would be when I couldn't relax enough to truly enjoy the smoke for thinking about how much it cost I passed it around and sparked up something I actually liked. El Presidente Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 Taking into account Oz taxes I drink mostly $20 bottles of wine....so to me a $20-$25 cigar is equivalent. I will splurge rarely on a $60 bottle of wine, so to me a $60-$70 cigar is equivalent. 3
Orion21 Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 I splurged on the O'Reilly book cigars because they are exceptional. They were $45 each and worth every penny. Looking at everything else I have a very hard time going over $15 because there are so many great cigars in the $6-$9 range. A Monte 520 at $25-$30...not worth it. A notable exception are good Siglo VI, which I won't hesitate to buy anymore.
Scroats Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 $55 Davidoff Royal Salomones. Good stick, but not worth the cash
Habanos2000 Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 Most expensive cigar I've ever purchased was a Cohiba 1966 while on vacation in London. I believe it was 40 pounds or about US$ 65. Damn that was a good cigar, but I think I'll leave that memory alone and not spoil it by buying another and being disappointed. My go to cigars are typically right around the US$10 mark on average.
... Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 Smoking a two years old Diesel Unholy Cocktail right now, one of my favourite NCs and worth about 3$... To me, 5 to 15 is about right. Anything more expensive better be special Most expensive cigar bought to date is about 25$
HarveyBoulevard Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 I guess too much for me would be when I couldn't relax enough to truly enjoy the smoke for thinking about how much it cost This!! 1
Boosted Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 I spent $106 for the Padron 50th anniversary maduro. Great cigar but not worth $106. I knew it wouldn't be going into it, but sometimes you just want something and have to have it. 1
merc Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 For a 1 hour smoke, I don't like to pay more than 1 hour's wage. Not counting special occasion stuff. Speaking of which, need to pick something for my birthday
nick2021 Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 Think the most I've spent is maybe 35-50 dollar on a cigar while on vacation---
earthson Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 Spent 32 recently for a special occasion (Padron 80th for graduation). Way more than that one was worth - their anniversarios are worth no more than 12 or so. My typical cap is 10-12 since there are just so many good cigars in that range or lower. Ill pay a touch more than that for quality HUSW or RAG.
santela Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 I love Matthew McConaughey's work, but if this guy is being honest, then I gotta say I'm losing a little respect for him.
dflan82 Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 This is obviously subjective, but to me it really depends upon the situation. I've spent $30 - $40 on Davidoffs and Fuentes in Vegas without giving it much thought and thoroughly enjoyed them. That said if I'm at my local shop, I'd be hard pressed to spend over $15 unless it was for a special occasion. I think that the sweet spot is generally in the $10 -$15 range. The more I smoke in this range, the less I want to go lower. I'm starting to figure that if these things are slowly killing me, I might as well smoke something halfway decent 1
avaldes Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 I don't like to spend more than 10-15 bucks on a cigar. In that range you can get a box of Monte #2, Cohiba Robustos, BBF and various other GREAT regular production smokes. With that said, there are certain cigars that simply cost more based on age, rarity or limited production. I have spent stoopid money on a box of 17 year old Sir Winstons, Partagas 155's, Davidoff's and others. Heck, even current production Esplendidos are $25 a stick, violating my own price rule! Some have been worth it, others not so much. I smoked my last P155 Salmones a few weeks ago and it was flat. Bummer after holding onto it since 2001!
cigcars Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 Once spent $12 on a San Andreas wrapper air stick during the early years of the "boom". Will never forget and will never forgive
cigarbreak Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 With Canadian taxes i think the most I spent for a cigar was about 40$+ approximately, about 6 mts ago. It was so I could try a Trinidad Robusto T. which I smoked yesterday and was fantastic. Next would be a Bolivar Super Corona pegged at around 35$ approx. It's really relative to where you live I guess. If I had no access/knowledge of vendors like our host I would say that the price I paid for those two sticks matched the great experience I got from them, akin to going to the bar and enjoying a few good cocktails/spirits. That, and I would be accustomed to paying that price anyways so there's nothing to compare it to. I'd pretty much pay max 40$ to try something that is raved about and htf. i wouldn't dare cough up the 80$+ bucks for a behike 52 knowing how much you can get a single for in Cuba. Most I have paid for a NC was around $20. in short the price was not worth the experience other than the excitement of trying something new.
wabashcr Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 I try to stick to the $15 ceiling, but I've bought a few that were a little more. I have zero interest in collecting cigars. The notion of having cool cigars to hold onto and not smoke does nothing for me. So I don't chase REs, ELs, or other rarities. I think a lot of cigars with inflated prices are so costly, in large part due to their collectible value. If someone can convince me I'll get $50 worth of smoking pleasure out of a cigar, I'll give it a try for $50.
