I will be entering the AMICIGAR Long Ash Competition in Italy. Only a month away and looking forward to catching up with old friends and meeting new ones immensely!

I smoke 99% of my cigars outdoors and hence have never tried to really get a long ash on any cigar.

For those who enjoy the "long Ash" Sport please provide some hints to a novice......outside of "don't ash lol3.gif

Once you've got a cigar that has 2 inches of ash on it, move very slowly and deliberately

I like to smoke my cigars vertically after a certain point to help compensate for gravity

Wear glasses, It sucks when you've got 3 or 4 inches of ash going and when it falls it lands all over your face. Ash in your eyes is not fun

Good luck ;-)

I tend to rotate the cigar depending on how it's burning and then eventually have to smoke it with my head tilted all the way up. Finished quite a bit of cigars to the end like that but really takes the enjoyment out of smoking. Feel like the favors get a lot more muted too due to the lack of fresh oxygen for combustion.

But anyways, I've also noticed well constructed and aged cigars tend to hold on to their ash much better; if you have a choice of course. The piece of wire or paper clip would be the easiest way to win though. Hahaha

Never touch it up with a lighter once lit, loosens the ash substantially!

Sip it when smoking it, don't touch up the burn, and pray you don't cover yourself in ash.

I normally smoke commuting from the office, my first craic at keeping the ash long was on a Favorito, managed this on the bumpy English roads.

draw evenly, gently, and regularly.it needs a bit less interval between draws than normal smoking, albeit shorter draws.

keep the angle close to vertical, and try to relax.less chance of sudden movements.........

It's all about the construction of the cigar. Choose a very well packed stick that has a draw that is slightly tight. If you don't move too much you should be good, LOL! Good luck!

Don't take as long as I will to smoke the cigar. Oh, wait, that would be a tip on how I can win in Italy. I have a feeling you and I will both be at the bar long before the current champ is nubbing his stick.

I think you should see a doctor about that alarming bend to the left.

For long ash. Try to grab an extra competition cigar for a friend. Pocket the extra cigar and dip it in a cigar vail of Crazy glue while smoking the other. Once you lose your ash roll the tacky cigar in the ashes. Voila! instant prise winner. Just dont let them see all the ashes glued to your hand, shirt or jacket. The next day you can have the doctor surgically remove the cigar fused to your hand.jester.gif

Grab a Fuente Anejo No. 77 Aka "Shark". See Below pic for my typical longest ash attempts 9 times out of 10 with one of these.post-18730-0-88213200-1431461083_thumb.j
