SparklePony Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 My friend is gushing on Facebook that his daughter went on vacation and brought him back this delightful assortment of "Habanos." Do I dare say anything?Bonus points for the person who comes up with the most things wrong here! 1
Troels Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 Nopes - dont see him winning anything from being told
stogieluver Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 Tell him. He should know. Whether he decides to tell his daughter (he shouldn't) is up to him. Box. Glass. Stickers. Cigars. Wrappers. That about covers it.

Ginseng Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 Spectacular. Truly at the zenith of counterfeit blandishment. Wilkey
1fastmach1 Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 Now. That said, this is prolly one of the worst fakes I've ever seen. Then again, I haven't really seen a great deal of them. I have been hosed a few times myself though.

rigby Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 Wow... Those are so wrong. I would tell him nicely, about them being fake. They should not go anywhere near his humidor without going through a good freezing first, no one deserves a beetle outbreak because of fakes 'n feelings... be a friend and tell him.

"Faithful are the wounds of a friend" - somewhere in Proverbs, I think 1

Just because they are fakes doesn't they that they are more likely to have a beetle outbreak than if they were real.
canadianbeaver Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 Had the same situation last week when we were at our resort in Mexico. The gift shop had a walk in humidor and every single box was fake. I met two really nice guys who bought cigars there, 2 each at $50 US, cash, a pop. First of all this had gone on long before I got there and will continue long after I am gone. Many who are more knowledgeable than I have probably said something but no one cares. I told the two guys not to buy any more and I treated them to a couple each of beautiful sticks. We had a great time! They are both customers here now. By interfering here, you will make the daughter feel awful and embarrass the man. And for what. 5 lousy cigars. Move on. It is not our job to police the Cuban cigar world. Offer the gentleman one next time you meet. 4
rigby Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 Just because they are fakes doesn't they that they are more likely to have a beetle outbreak than if they were real. Really... I am sure the fakers use all the same processes that Habanos s.a. employ in beetle abatement... I believe I gave someone some sound advise about cigars of a very unknown origin. What exactly does your comment bring to the discussion, other than a challenge to my advice... Do some research before you make silly comments, about topics which you do not understand.
AbuAmelia Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 Let him be happy with what his daughter got him. Now if a friend got it for him, I'd tell him, but don't do it to his daughter. Thought that counts, right? 1
Skyfall Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Just because they are fakes doesn't they that they are more likely to have a beetle outbreak than if they were real. I doubt the fakes get the same "freezing" treatment that the real ones get prior to shipping out. I would say they are scientifically more likely.
aushy Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 I doubt the fakes get the same "freezing" treatment that the real ones get prior to shipping out. I would say they are scientifically more likely. Ah of course. I didn't think about the freezing. I was thinking that tobacco beetles wouldn't know the difference. I was also just picturing snobby tobacco beetles with top hats and monocles saying "Oh my heavens no, that Cohiba is fake! I only eat tobacco from LCDH" 2
CapoKing Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 I would politely tell him then get him to dissect them for the garbage that probably in them.
leftimatic Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 I would let him know so the same mistake doesn't happen again. If it were me I would appreciate the knowledge. Besides if you don't, he is bound to hear somewhere else. Maybe from some stranger on instagram..... some know it all cigar cop knob that wont be as kind as a buddy. The choice is yours of course.
CaptainQuintero Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 The first thing which hit me was that they are long and skinnies. Obviously not from Cuba then!
Habanos2000 Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 I would say "nice!", it's his daughter's thought that counts.
Scroats Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 my policy is only if specifically asked. I don't offer my opinion otherwise 1
