wea1959 Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 The Octopus has a truly different brain distributed throughout its body rather than concentrated in a "cranium". http://www.bbc.com/future/story/20140626-the-alien-brains-living-on-earth IMHO, it gives a hint how different from humans other intelligent life might be. My ex-wife excluded.
JohnS Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 I guess the crab can't learn from its mistake this time!
Ken Gargett Posted February 27, 2015 Author Posted February 27, 2015 loved the way it dodged the big claws. a seriously clever animal. perhaps it could pick tomorrow's world cup winner. 1
... Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Imagine if it coulf be trained to roll cigars... 1
leftimatic Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Imagine if it coulf be trained to roll cigars... My advise would be to get him started on NCs first. Say the Ghurka Black Octopus Warrior Widow line. He could roll say 4 at a time every 20 seconds. Put that into a 10 hour work day. At a thousand dollars a cigar MSRP. Subtract standard retail discount of course.... We could make hundreds of dollars! 1
cigcars Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 I've always been a fan of octopus's (or is it octopi?! ) They are HIGHLY intelligent. They've performed tests with them where they'll put a species of its favorite fish in a glass screwtop jar, and just watch the octopus try to get it. With a comparatively little bit of time, the octopus will eventually wrap its tentacle around the lid and figure out to unscrew the jar top. Fascinating.

Fascinating. one zoo aquarium could not work out how they were losing fish from sealed tanks. they filmed the room. every night, the octopus would push its lid aside, crawl out and move the lid on the neighbouring tanks and pinch a fish then sneak home. 1
Fosgate Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 And that folks is why I don't eat octopus. Little 8 legged freak shows straight from H.P. Lovercraft. 1
Bill Hayes Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 I see quite a few octopus when spearfishing. I know it sounds like favouritism but I can't bring myself to kill either Octopus or Cuttlefish. I know they taste good but they are just too cool. Squid, on the other hand, lay their eggs then go off to die anyway so they are definitely on the menu around the start of Spring where I'm from. 1
MIKA27 Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 Clever... tasty little buggers. Can't outsmart the deep fryer with salt and pepper;)
