Popular Post Ken Gargett Posted February 12, 2015 Popular Post Posted February 12, 2015 as far as i am aware, it is still going on (most of us had bailed but a few hardy - idiotic - souls kept on) but i have just managed to escape and crawl home - i'm getting too old for this sort of thing. what a brilliant day and one that could not have been more fitting for such a great bloke. no wonder we all love him. lunch at moda and then more drinks and coro's at the heritage. a cracker day. have a feeling it may not be a cracker morning tomorrow. javier at moda is one of australia's great chefs. brilliant paella (an entree of octupus cooked with wine corks??? never seen that but terrific stuff). and then a mix of things including a lamb dish that must rank among one of the very best individual dishes in australia. great food, great company, great fun, great drinks, great cigars. i just hope rob enjoyed it as much as we all did! no idea if there are any photos but i rather hope not. one that will be long remembered. 6

WarriorPrincess Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 I must have just missed you Ken as I was called at 5.30pm to come and join the remaining lot. I was told to come by taxi and not drive, warning signs went up straight away When I arrived one look at Rob and I knew there and then he was very "happy" Everyone told me how great the whole day was and in Rob's words, "the best way to spend his birthday " We ended up getting home around midnight and needless to say Rob is a little under the weather today....looks like I will be driving to Noosa this afternoon and he might be snoozing at the back 3
Colt45 Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 what a brilliant day and one that could not have been more fitting for such a great bloke. one that will be long remembered. Nice work all ( good to see that his path has not entirely straightened )
Popular Post El Presidente Posted February 12, 2015 Popular Post Posted February 12, 2015 i just hope rob enjoyed it as much as we all did! Oh Rob enjoyed it ....waaaaaay tooooo much I am a little bit of a mess right now. Tapping the keyboard hurts. What a wonderful day/night. I had planned it to be a little bit special. Great chef and friend Javier did a remarkable job. His staff were brilliant, the private dining room perfect. I had booked for 19 people. I really didn't want a party, just my closest mates going back 25 years. I was missing only two, Des Park who fell off his roof a month ago and is recuperating (compound fractures) and Manu Bhojwani who lives in Singapore. What a surprise to see Manu walk in the door. Di had managed to keep his attendance secret from me Looking around the table, I saw 25 years of ups and downs, travels, so many shared experience, laughs, tears. So many times of walking in the door for each other when things were rough. Celebrating together when things were good. Getting in to trouble together.... and most of the time getting out I looked at my son Ben there as a man taking his place among men. So very proud. We ate a feast, we drank fine wines, we laughed loud, we retired for some great cigars and a little more debauchery. Amazingly, some of us then went to dinner and carried on. It was great to see Di join us late in the afternoon. I always smile when she walks in the door and I am a better/richer person when ever she is next to me. So today I am paying the price for one of the great days. I pay it gladly. Thank you to all for making it a great day. Thank you all here for your birthday wishes. In a way, you were at the table. 11

El Presidente Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Glad you enjoyed Prez, I read in your words symptoms of a good life Care to share the list of cigars you smoked on your special day? On days like yesterday with great friends, every cigar is a cracker. The PSP box of CORO was stellar. Connie 2 in the am. This weekend I will find time to really enjoy a few cigars as I will have the chance to relax and focus. PL Magnum (1972) Cohiba Sublime (Gift from Artie yesterday) Punch Super Selection Number 1 (2000 and perfect) H. Upmann Super Corona (2002)

PL Magnum (1972) Cohiba Sublime (Gift from Artie yesterday) Punch Super Selection Number 1 (2000 and perfect) H. Upmann Super Corona (2002) Nice! Seems some cigars you just want to enjoy with a bit of quietness so you can focus more on the whole experience, including the flashbacks of good memories and past enjoyment involved...Enjoy, birthdays were never designed to last only one short day every year
avaldes Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Good choices for birthday smokes! Have had some very good memories associated with Cohiba Sublimes and Upmann Supers!
Cohiba Stevie Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Sounds like a phenomenal day. Happy birthday Rob!
asmith Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 It's was a fantastic lunch that like all of our lunches dragged on into the evening. The wines were fantastic, company great, cigars perfect and food outstanding. Seeing Shagga Bowden reach for the frypan that served up the lamb shanks and then use it as his plate was a highlight of the meal and a confirmation of how good the meal was. 1
