for skins fans.

great memories.

these from back when i lived in DC. granted one never really thought it would always be this good but who have thought it would be this bad.

what a great team the 1991 skins were. not full of superstars (though what you'd give for a darrell green these days - or even a monk or clark or mann or manley) but just terrific across the board. and not an idiot for a coach, a manager or an owner.

enjoy the vids.

Those were the days my friend

We thought they'd never end

We'd sing and dance forever and a day

We'd live the life we choose

We'd fight and never lose

For we were young and sure to have our way.

La la la la..La la la la..

As a Bills fan, I do not approve this message. Brutal Super Bowl.

i still have the full superbowl on tape. should transfer it to a DVD.

without wishing to rub salt (because as a skins fan, we just about live in salt mines) but that score did not reflect the game. if i recall, the bills got pretty much all their points late in the game when the skins were off celebrating on the sidelines and playing the backups (mind you, those backups would probably all be starters for us today).

two things i remember about that game (I had just returned to australia and watched it here).

1. kickoff had to be re-done. none of my mates in the states knew this. apparently there was a stuff up and they kicked off while tv in america was still off on commercials. so it had to be retaken. if i recall, it was to the bills and they didn't do too much either time but what happens it they run it in for a touchdown first time or fumble it?

2. thurman thomas. i think he was the guy the skins most feared. he had a big game in the superbowl the year before. bills first offensive set and he stays on the bench?????? ditto second. could not understand it. turns out he couldn't find his helmet. seriously? the top player in the biggest game can't find his gear? wow. i remember the bills had been all talk and massively confident the week before (i remember that even though we'd been the dominant team all year, the bills had a heap of stars and bar green and monk we were mostly just seriously good, not great players - thank all divinities for joe gibbs) and the skins were more about just getting it done but how could you not focus on something like that. that was the moment i knew we had it won. if they are that overconfident and unfocused, forget it. i think thomas ended up having about his worst game ever - about ten yards from memory.

I was young, but this is the first Redskins team I remember. Httr

Aaaaaaaamen! I grew up watching that team. I was too young for the Super Bowl XVII group. Great memories.

Being a Denver fan when Shanahan was let go and picked up along with Portis later I was really hoping he could light some fires up there. Denver was stuck with Josh McDaniels (Worst coach in franchise history) so who no one else to watch but the skins.

portis was pretty successful. shanny less so at the time but it is looking as though he wasn't anywhere near as bad as everyone thought with hindsight. mind you, jay gruden makes anyone look good and he may well end up being our 'worst coach in franchise history'. shanahan's resume with denver would suggest that he did know something about coaching.

as good as portis was, i was very sorry we lost champ bailey for him, but i don't think we had much of a choice. seems he wanted to go. but think back to a time when we had a young bailey with admittedly ageing but still brilliant darrell green and also neon deion as cornerbacks. now we have a couple of kids, one with a bit of promise, and an old bloke with not one but two stuffed achilles.

those were the days indeed.

I live in the area and I'll tell ya, it's been a rough 2 years for the Skins. It's interesting to see some of these videos and see some of the former greatness. Now, it's just a revolving door.

Coaches haven't helped matters, but Washington's problems begin and end with the owner. As long as he owns the team, and feels the need to have a say in football matters, they're hopeless.

And I'm sure this won't be received well on a thread dedicated to Washington fans, but it's high time they changed the name. To me it's almost inconsequential whether it offends natives or if it's a source of pride (which seems silly to me). It's a distasteful slur, and in 2015 we don't refer to things by people's skin color.

1) Why do white, black, hispanic, asian, etc. care about this name so much?

2) Most 'Redskins' aka Native Americans take a bit of pride in it, survey says. One Indian group wants to be a pain about it....tons of non-indian individuals are bored and want to chime in.

3) Change the logo, not the name. I'd rather make a joke of it than give in to non-related (non Native American) people's opinions:

P.S. No hate and not an attack on you wabashcr, just so tired of hearing about it.

Understood. I've said my piece and will gladly move on.

My apologies on the Name Change issue.

In other notes: Bought my old man some sweet Art Monk and Darryl Green signed pictures for xmas. Can we get a core group of stars again soon?!?!
