M777 Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 I can buy a box of CoRo's and a bottle of Hennessy XO for $500 usd.
Optic101 Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 It's all about marketing. As mentioned before there are ppl out there who will be happy to get them for whatever reason.
Hash Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 Lets hope Habanos does not catch up with Davidoff.
Baldy Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 Lets hope Habanos does not catch up with Davidoff. Habanos so far have been smarter but they are already doing it. There's lots and ever growing LE, RE, Jar, Books, etc. There is a sizeable crowd of people, who while never admitting to it, buy on prestige, power, affluence and so call exclusivity. This is true of cigars, scotch, cars, trucks, beer, houses, art and many many more human vices. It is to this crowd and not the everyday cigar smoker that this is marketed to. It's about lifestyle, power, prestige, exclusivity, that this cigar was made and is marketed to. Sadly this is a bigger market than we all would like to admit. 2
leftimatic Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 I can buy a box of CoRo's and a bottle of Hennessy XO for $500 usd. I'll one up that! I can buy a box of Monte #3 and a box of Punch Punch and two bottles of Pigs Nose for $500. I can sit by my wood pile all winter with that! No powerful prestige complex here.
Colt45 Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 Lets hope Habanos does not catch up with Davidoff. there's always the original release Behike........
polarbear Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 It amazes me that anyone is surprised what the marketing machine known as the NC industry tries these days We've got $1000 cigars infused with Cognac We've got $250 cigar that are rolled in 24 karat gold We've got people flipping boxes with pretty pictures on them for $500 when the RRP is $130 We've got $40k cigars that come with a 'free' trip to Nica to blend your own cigar We've got $200 cigars that were only blended for a manufactures wedding that are sold at events And now a $500 cigar that has 'only the finest tobaccos in it'. Nothing the NC industry does surprises me anymore
leftimatic Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 They are not chasing around a civet and using its poop..... yet. All bitterness is gone because, 'only the finest cat **** was used in rolling these cigars'
sengjc Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 I'd rather pay 20 Euros for a regular production CC than receive this Davidoff cigar for free I would receive this for free - can't knock free stuff.
sigsauer Posted December 13, 2014 Posted December 13, 2014 but the add does say.. "When you hold #OroBlanco between your fingers, you can tell it has been hand rolled by experts with over 20 years of Experience" BS!
garbandz Posted December 13, 2014 Posted December 13, 2014 but the add does say.. "When you hold #OroBlanco between your fingers, you can tell it has been hand rolled by experts with over 20 years of Experience" BS! then purchased by a ninny with significantly more $$ than brains....... and sold by money grubbing crooks with no care for their customers.
topdiesel Posted December 13, 2014 Posted December 13, 2014 Every product line has a range of prices. I accept that, I understand that, and I don't get bent out of shape if something is too expensive for me. Good for the folks who have the money to try it if they want to. I have placed more value on other things than a cigar for $500.00. I am sure there are plenty of folks who would say we are crazy for the amount of money we spend on Cuban cigars. If an Oro Blanco brings the purchaser $500 worth of joy and happiness, then it was $500 well spent.
mgravito Posted December 13, 2014 Posted December 13, 2014 It's a cigar for super wealthy people who don't really smoke cigars to show off to other super wealthy people. I just can't understand how a cigar, any cigar, is worth $500 dollars unless it's a collector's item where the collector's are setting the price and not MSRP direct from the manufacturer. I just don't understand the economics of it. Even then I don't know of ANY cigar that would cost $500. A diplomatic Cohiba from the late 70's, early 80's? An Upmann PC from President Kennedy's personal collection? A cuban from the 1920's? A Cohiba Gran Reserva?
PaulP Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 It's all those rich guys taunting us. Money means nothing to them. They read the threads here and laugh. It is sick. They light their cigars with $100 bills.
mgravito Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 Yeah don't know why I came off as super bitter. I guess I would just think someone with enough money to buy a 500 dollar cigar would have better taste.
canadianbeaver Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 From a friend of mine, who is very intelligent and normal. "How can you possibly spend $20 on a cigar when you don't even inhale the thing?"
rodrigodeanda Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 From a friend of mine, who is very intelligent and normal. "How can you possibly spend $20 on a cigar when you don't even inhale the thing?" My thoughts exactly. I mean, we sit here complaining how can someone want to spend $500 on a cigar. There are people who sit and wonder why we smoke at all
LLC Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 From a friend of mine, who is very intelligent and normal. "How can you possibly spend $20 on a cigar when you don't even inhale the thing?" Totally agree. You could say this about any hobby or passion that is not your thing. What anyone wants to spend on what makes them happy is their business and I'm sure they could care less what anyone else thinks about it.
