AlastairE Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 I'm down in Sydney next week for a couple of days for a Habanos SA accreditation program. I'm representing FOH and will be a "Habanos Specialist" afterwards (technically more qualified that El Pres - where's his piece of paper? I have heard very little about this, and it'll be interesting to see what happens next week. Does anyone have information on these programs? Perhaps they've been happening in your country through a LCDH or a regional retailer.....? Please let me know - I'd love to see if anyone has intel 3
gtejada Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Man, that sounds outstanding! Wish I could do that. Godspeed and have fun!

Take pics of they let you Alastair, and please do tell us all how it goes! Ahaha, I'm not worried about that! They're inviting other people from around Australia apparently. I just checked the Habanos SA website, and saw a couple of other similar events in different countries. Was just wondering if anyone on here had any information on them "don't ***** about loss of all the good cigars," Plus I'm too young to know what used to be around. You won't miss what you've never had I suppose
cooper669 Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Please share your new found knowledge when you return.
Jeremy Festa Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Plus I'm too young to know what used to be around. You won't miss what you've never had I suppose Are you kidding me, all the old cigars used to be A-MAZ-ING! Now they're just slightly above average.
AlastairE Posted October 23, 2014 Author Posted October 23, 2014 Are you kidding me, all the old cigars used to be A-MAZ-ING! Now they're just slightly above average. That's what i'm saying!! I'm too young to know how good some particular discontinued cigars used to be! I'm awfully sad about it
Fuzz AI Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Just raid Rob's personal humidor when he's in Cuba. If he asks why so many are missing, tell him there was a beetle outbreak.

Colt45 Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Does anyone have information on these programs? Hooded cloaks, large paddles, chanting, candles, spring loaded clothespins........ 1
AlastairE Posted October 23, 2014 Author Posted October 23, 2014 Hooded cloaks, large paddles, chanting, candles, spring loaded clothespins........ & cigars!
Colt45 Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 & cigars! Only if you pass the challenges, and guess the riddles three. Or is it the riddle of steel..... It sounds like a great opportunity - do well!
IPORTER Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Best of luck Alastair and post the pics of the event!
Ryan Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 It has started in the UK, organised by Hunters and Frankau. Multiple choice questions. In the UK version of the test at least, all the questions are based on information in this book. http://www.amazon.com/WORLD-HABANO-ESSENTIAL-BOOK-ENTHUSIASTS/dp/B00BNX6GRO So get that book, have a good read of it, know it and you should be set. The one sample question I remember is "Which leaf, currently used in Habanos cigar production, has the most strength?" A. Volado B. Seco C. Ligero D. Medio Tiempo Edit: Now that I look at it, the Hunter's program might be a separate thing. They run a "Master of Habanos Cigars" program based on that book. So you can probably ignore everything I wrote! Best of luck!

Puros Y Vino Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Does this have anything to do with the Cigar Sommelier competitions? How is that accreditation handled? Does Habanos SA have a program or the the distributors handle it themselves?
Smallclub Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Does this have anything to do with the Cigar Sommelier competitions? Not at all. It's a course over about a week, taught by someone from your regional importer. H&F does it a lot in the UK. I think there is something about it on HSA web site, I must check. 2

I've heard of Habanos "Master classes" but can't find any online reference to them.
RijkdeGooier Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 It's an accreditation course where you learn some more specific details about viola's, the production process, the factories and the distribution. They also give courses in Cuba.
bugman78629 Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Sounds GREAT; wish I had Intel for you......Good Luck
