Maplepie Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 So i've been doing some serious thinking (with a d) and i've always pondered about those cigars I couldn't take at the opportunity. A while ago, I realised that you don't go after rare and HtF cigars. Rare cigars come to you and you say yay or nay. Either that, or you road trip across Iberia But there are those cigars that you lose. Every time someone tells me that, I immediately tell them to think about the cigars they DO have and what you have received instead. That dwarfs whatever cigars you haven't been able to get. But every once in a while, I think of cigars that I had missed out on. Cigars that are now a white whale of mine due to sentimental reasons. How about I start this off: ERdM Vikingos RE Baltico- Due to a financial pothole, I missed out on these beauties. Perhaps even soiled an okay relationship with those... But have yet to known. I even bought two boxes of Balthsars to make myself feel better but ended up ridding myself of the one box of Balthasars. I have yet to find any for a while. Cohiba 2000 Millenium - Thanks to a great BotL, I was bombed one a while back. But prior, I missed out on the crazy price of $50 each on them. Just thought they were too expensive at that time... Punch SS No. 2 1980s - Box split gone south. Way too south for comfort. Pass the mic to you kind folks:
Lant63 Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 RACF.... never got a box. I waited way to long. 3
Maplepie Posted September 22, 2014 Author Posted September 22, 2014 RACF.... never got a box. I waited way to long. No worries sLanty. There are the RE Suizas coming out this year. If that doesn't do you, i've found no difference in the Canadian Petit Unicos or the German Belicoso. They're still readily found!
PigFish Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 … I waited a little too long to take a vendor up on a sale of SdC #2, several years ago. I ordered 6 boxes but they were out… Damn, I wish I had those cigars today! I also tried to swing a deal many moons ago, to buy 1000 Bolivar Demi Tasse at a really cheap price. I loved these and there were no other cigars of that size that even came close to them (MHO) but the vendor could not raise the cigars and would not go for the price based on what he had left… Lord, those were great little cigars. I don't really have any wow stories about rare or expensive cigars because I have never really chased them. I have never been in for chasing rare singles. For me, it has always been about scoring several boxes of a regular cigars that no one wanted until they stopped making them…! Now that I am thinking of this stuff, it is making me sick, so I am gonna' quite while I am still behind… -Piggy

Yes but I fear they will not be as strong as the Asia release, and also about 250 for ten instead of 25.

Wow.... 1000 Bolivar DT. I only found out they existed a good 5 months ago and Chris was generous enough to give one to me. damn it'd be awesome to grab a thousand. I believe Cyprus or another near Turkish LCdH still has double digits of them. Worth a phone call to anyone in that region, if i were you. Yes but I fear they will not be as strong as the Asia release, and also about 250 for ten instead of 25. they're larger, Leo. somewhat justifiable. i'll get it due to the tapered end. rarely a Cuban with that on its foot! and i seriously urge you to look at the Canadian Petit Unico and the German Belicoso. They taste so bloody similar.
ChanceSchmerr Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 First time i was in Andorra. Before the "Cigar Journal" Article that reminded everyone how much htf stuff was stocked in Andorra. I could only buy so much, but i wish i coulda made room for these guys too that are now long gone. Punch RS 12 (bought a box for a friend, but not for me. Gone) ERDM Tainos Partagas Seleccion Pravda (got one box. ...shoulda got more) Boli Corona Extra 50 cab (this one hurts a LOT) Boli Corona (see punch RS 12) Boli Lonsdale (see punch RS 12) 4
gigabyte056 Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 Boli Corona Extra, was stocking up in Zurich and the shop had 4 boxes of the then discontinued cigar. grabbed one box, now kicking myself for not buying the lot, I had a silly reason of not wanting to go through customs with four times the allowed amount. Came back a month later, none to be seen.
Maplepie Posted September 22, 2014 Author Posted September 22, 2014 Partagas Seleccion Pravda (got one box. ...shoulda got more) Boli Corona Extra 50 cab (this one hurts a LOT) Boli Corona (see punch RS 12) Boli Lonsdale (see punch RS 12) yeaaaaaaa...... this thread is going to be sadistic. we should get a thread up about our recent purchases!!
polarbear Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 Anything from Diplomatico I was once offered boxes of 4's and 5's for next to nothing but turned them down in favour of Monte 4's (I was churning through boxes of them at the time) thinking that Diplomatico was just Montecristos poor cousin. I was gifted a pair of Diplo 4's and 5's late last year and those sticks sent me on a buying hunt that continues to this day I've managed to track down some 1's and 3's over the last year, but I paid a premium for them When I think back to what I was offered 4's and 5's for, I almost cry 2

Duxnutz Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 I have a fair few one offs so shouldn't be too sad. BUT When i was getting into cigars Ive left on the shelf: Whole boxes of ERDM Tainos, LGC 1s/3s/Tainos, RA Eschmoun 32s not to mention Monte and Cohiba Gran Reservas available as singles *facepalm. Still on the lookout for an SLR Serie A Cab if anyone has a lead or tea-leaf reading on where to find.
leftimatic Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 With winter coming so are the lean times for a carpenter, so just about every 12:12 from here to April for me. Might convince the wife to get me a box and a pair of slippers for Christmas.
Strada Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 50 cab of 2001 SS1 in Havana 2 years ago :/
Puros Y Vino Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 50 cab of 2001 SS1 in Havana 2 years ago :/ I remember this well. Wasn't there a 50 cab of BCE's too? If so, I regret that.

CdnLimitada Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 Started collecting only a few years ago and already experiencing the dread of this. I missed out on stocking up on Monte GE and QdO Superiores. I know they can be found now but for much more than they were just months ago. Love to try more Punch SS1-2. I got a couple of these from a great BOTL and they are fantastic. I have one RA 898 but yet to try it. These ones I won't chase but if I happen to find them somewhere...
sheppsea Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 Like Jeremy the ERDM Vikingos - I tried one earlier in the year and it was an amazing smoke I do actually know where I can get some, they're just too expensive to be able to justify at the moment

dangolf18 Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 Could've gotten unlimited boxes of 2008 Montecristo Sublimes about 2 years ago at about $16 a stick. Missed out on aged Bolivar Coronas Extras and Lonsdales. Had 3 boxes of Cohiba Piramides El 2006 at about $25 a stick..got rid of all of them.
Ryan Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 I'm sorry that 5-6 years ago, I didn't have 10K euro a year more to spend on cigars. I'm probably not the only one who feels that way. But I'm generally happy with what I have. There are always good cigars to be found.
