El Presidente Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 Thoughts on the Bolivar libertador and Romeo Y Julieta De luxe LE 2013. I have a dozen e-mails from members asking for opinions on both. With such a resource as FOH it is much better coming from you good people who have spent your coin. let us know your thoughts on either or both. Much appreciated
Onsto Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 Really enjoying the Libertador. Most of the way through a box that I picked up in November and every one has been stellar. I'll be getting more and smoking them soon, no need to lay them down in my opinion. Only had the two RyJ that I picked up (and smoked) in Havana. They didn't do anything much for me, but were over humidified so whatever flavour is there was probably muted. Overall, I prefer the wide Churchill and MUCH prefer the Dukes. The 2013 Hoyo was similarly bland to my taste, the Punch is the standout for 2013, even if it's ridiculously priced. 1
melies Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 For me they are both the best of 2013, although everybody raves about the Punch, the single that I smoked, was bland and tasteless... maybe I need to get another one of those... The libertador is approachable now, but the RyJ need serious sleeping time, but I think that you will be rewarded a lot. But what do I know, I'm just a fish
Habana Mike Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 Haven't had a chance on the Libertador as yet though suspect I'd probably enjoy the profile more than the RyJ De Luxe I've had. Am more of a Boli man at any rate.....
AlohaStyle Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 I really like the Bolivar as it is smokeable now, but I think can be stellar in a few years. I have not tried the RyJ... not a fan of EL's in general.
sheppsea Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 I haven't tried the Bolivar, but I was very disappointed with the RyJ and wouldn't recommend it to anyone
Maplepie Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 Libbies smoked like fresh Corona Gigantes. Will try buying again because of their sublime Sublime shape. Feel like there's adequate ageing potential. Very nice Bolivar but admittingly, there are better ones to be had. RyJ de Luxe are everything RyJ stands for nowadays: mediocre. I mean, they're alright... Not $25 each alright... But alright nonetheless. They're a fully different beast compared to ones that are 10 years old (perhaps its due to the age... but i think there's something fundamentally different from the old RyJs. But that's just me.)
in0gravity Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 Really love the Romeo de Luxe (and I am not a RyJ Lover). To me the best of the LE's from last year. However need some time. The Libertadores is also a good cigar. The two that I had so far were really good but think that they also need a bit more time. regards Lars
Zigatoh Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 The RyJ is good now but a sleeper, hoping for good things in a few years. Only had one of the Boli so can't really comment except that it was the first cigar I have had in a long time which developed noticable tar build up, as in actual visible drops, during smoking, could be due to punching it rather than cutting it but still, odd.
Troels Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 I've only had one of the bolis. It was ok, but I've felt no urge to reach for the second one that is waiting for me in the humi.
Diamondog Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 Haven't been blown away yet by the Boli but I am hopeful. Seems like they are also under filled, could just be the batch I bought in Cuba who knows. The Romeo on the other hand, were not very good when I first picked them up but now they are absolutely phenomenal and will only get better. They have over taken the Punch EL 2013 for me as the best EL for 2013 and handily. 1
Smiley Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Had a Libertador last night. Holy smoke! This went directly in on my top three list! Size, smell, taste! Spicy at lift-off but after a few puffs it turned smooth and tasty, all the way to the nub. Nuts and toasted tobacco, lots of sweet honey notes. Some ammonia on the exhale, but that was to be expected. Box from OCT 13. My humble knowledge say that this cigar must have great aging potential. 1
finecigar Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Excited to get a box of the Boli in the post- heard some good things
tmac77 Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Despite these cigars being normally larger than I like to smoke I have had a few of both and enjoyed them quite a bit. I am not usually a fan of the RyJ line with a few minor exceptions but I really liked this one. As for the Bolivar it was IMO the better of the two with more complexity and a nice Boli punch to it. both need more time however. I feel that the Bolivar has better aging potential with more room for improving over time than the RyJ. As for pricing.. well what can you say... it is an LE and you always pay a premium for LE's and RE's regardless of the quality of the cigar.
Lotusguy Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 Really liked the Bolivar - the RyJ was mediocre for me.
Lant63 Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 How does the Liberator compare to the Corona Gigantes? One can have almost an entire box of the later for the price. Does it really just come down to size preference?

AbuAmelia Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 I really liked the Libby's, I'm really becoming very fond of all Bolivar cigars. They seems to always do it for me and leave me satisfied. I have yet to try the Luxe as I just got a box from The President.

rigby Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 Haven't had the boil… yet. But, I have had the RyJ and I thought it was very good… reminded me of the '09 Duke (one of my favs). Can't get either in Belize right now… so I'll wait.
