So I'm looking at buying some boxes to expand my collection, and wanted to know what some peoples thoughts were on the different No. 2's on the market. Like I mentioned, since my stash is relatively small, buying something that will take 2+ years to come into form is helpful, but I'll need a recommendation something that smokes well young too. So I guess a couple of recommendations would be helpful.

Thanks guys!

There is no box of 10 Upmann No.2.

There are 5 standard pyramids on regular production (Monte, Upmann, Diplo, Partagas P2, VR Unicos); forget the Upmann and the Diplo if you want to smoke them "fresh"…

Only the Monte and the Partagas come in box of 10, they probably are your best bet…

Rob, (El Presidente) has a Piramide & Belicoso Sampler pack up on the storefront! Get that, see what you like and then buy a box.

monte 2 is probably the go to of many and even after a few years is still a reliable one to go back to that smokes well early on in.

If you have some deep pockets, some of the more premium pyramids are worth smoking at young ages.

cohiba pyramide and the monte gran reserva are examples that i think are decent young

Avoid buying any 2's blind, I speak from experience.... Check out the hand picked thread as there are some figurado's in there that you might appreciate and don't hesitate to try Ramon's suggestion and dabble in some belicosos...

Love the Monte 2 and recent production has been stellar. Always been a big fan of the Upmann 2 also a staple in my humidor. Recent production on both has smoked great right away. As stated make sure not to buy blind. Rob usually has hand picked boxes of both available.

Like the Partagas 2 also but have not smoked anything recent. Dip 2's are great if you want to lay them down for some time.

Recent Monte 2s have been great, I smoked through a box of 10 from 2012 last year, all very good. The first Monte 2s I've really liked.

To go against the grain, I find young Diplomaticos No. 2 very approachable, very nice, that could well be just me.

Aged Upmann 2s are lovely. I have a "tradition", I smoke an Upmann No. 2 from a 2007 box on my first night in Cuba every time I go, they're getting better.

The Partagas P2 I'll always like but the youngest box I have is from 2008. When they're on they're great, sweetness and leather but they can be bland when they're off.

I don't have enough experience with the VR to comment.

I haven't found a Monte 2 I've enjoyed very much yet, however i'm not a monte fan, with exception of the especiales.

Favourite Pyramid is definitely P2. Upmann a close second, however as others have said, they are better with age

The VR Unicos in the blind tasting last year was very good and would have been recent production. A sampler definitely sounds like the way forward

I have had great luck on the handpicked JL #2.....

which is not a pyramid… this is why is don't like the appellation "No.2" for the pyramid vitola, it can only lead to confusion…

On the subject of No. 2's, just received a box of Monte 2's from Oct 13, box code ALT.. I would normally let these sit 6-8 months before even having one but are the Monte 2's from 13' really smoking that well this young?

Not bad...I much prefer my 2008-2010 sticks though. Smoke one and see for yourself. ymmv.
