Working in a store where we buy and sell all sorts of valuables and collector's items,

we never know what may be offered next.

A couple of months ago, an elderly lady was chatting with me after selling some jewelry.

She mentioned that her late husband was a cigar smoker;

she still had some of his cigars from years ago that she did not have the heart to throw away.

I explained that they may have some value if they were well stored in a humid environment.

Sure enough, a couple of days later, she was back with the cigars.

A deal was struck, much to her delight, then my boss flipped them to me for a small profit.

Surprisingly, they generally seemed in very good shape, moist with just enough tension to the touch.

The Partagas PCs had some powdery white mold, which was easily removed.

The box was opened, but full.

What is missing I have smoked, and they are indeed excellent.

The Monty 4s were heavily compromised by the mold, which often extended into the feet.

Though they also cleaned off, more or less, they smell musty.

I have not yet tried the Lanceros; there are two petacas of five, plus one with two cigars left.

They have been well protected by the cellophane, and feel just right.

Another couple of months at 65% RH, and then we shall see...

I have also tried the Los Statos Cremas.

Very typical, even hard to distinguish from some late '90s sticks.

15-25 years of extra aging seems to have had little effect.

There is a sealed box of Petit Upmann in cello; there was also another box with four singles,

of which I smoked two. Very nice, with quite a punch.

As well, a sealed box of R&J Belvederes, seemingly dated, probably by a merchant, to 1970.

There is a full five-pack of Punch Triunfos, and three cigars of Punch Souvenirs de Luxe,

in a five count metal tin. Both are machine made, and probably very rare.

Last, but not least, a partial box of Royal Jamaica Coronitas, produced in Jamaica with Jamaican tobacco, from before Hurricane Gilbert devastated the local industry in 1988.

I have tried one so far, which I very much enjoyed.

As to the Cubans, all the cigars are pre Habanos S.A., so date before 1985.

wow what a nice find, hope you put up a review when you smoke any of those smokes

You're right, I really should, at least for a Lancero.

Probably a PPC as well...
