Just curious if there's been any updates in regards to this? It seems like the first edition is showing up on OLH semi frequently now much cheaper than it has been. Do they know something I don't or are they just trying to beat the rush?

Second edition is due after the Frankfurt bookshow. Initial printing will be 2000 copies and the rumored price (Ninos blogg) is 3000 Euros....

There will also be a moderately priced and more commercially available edition released but for now all focus on the project is set for the Frankfurt book fair release.

The initial run of 2000 look set to break boundaries that have never been done before in written publication of this scale, especially regarding the clarity and finish of the photos.

I know I will never own a first edition....

But I will endeavour to get hold of a secondary publication.

I definitely am not looking to get into the thread discussing price as that went so poorly last time. That being said there is no price (nor has there ever been) on Ninos blog... here is a quote from the last post referencing MRN's book on Ninos blog:

"If people can still read, I have never quoted the retail price and I wrote the priority is printing the first 2,000 books for the Frankfurt Book Fair. I never wrote, and MRN never confirmed, that the book will be limited to 2,000 copies.

Maybe their attention span was not long enough to finish the two last sentences of my blog post, so take your time – what is it you don’t exactly understand of them ?

” The intention of the book is to preserve information for posterity which will otherwise be lost. It is not a commercial project and monetary gain is not the motivation.

MRN has told me in person that he has not seriously thought of the final number of books printed, distribution channels and/or retail price. Getting the first 2000 books published in time for the Frankfurt Book Fair is his first priority for the moment. “

The Book-show is early October. The "rumoured" price (for the initial edition) is just that.....a totally unsubstantiated guess.

There can be no sensible discussion on prices....until such time as a price is disclosed by MRN himself.

From what I can see the Frankfurt book fair is not until October 8-12th... meaning this book probably won't be here for almost a year... or am I missing something?

Another quote from Ninos blog which is why I was asking if there was an update....

'The book will be released for sure in 2013 to celebrate the 10-th anniversary of the first release of MRN’s Encyclopaedia."

I can advise that 2013 was MRN's estimated release time frame as late as December 2012, however it appears that problems involving the availability of the Fuji 8 x 10 film, preparation of the plates, and printing techniques are the primary causes of the delay.

As of December 2012 the contents of the book were complete and it was in the proof reading stage.

Correct, there is no price mentioned in my blog.

However, there is an estimate I make in reply to a comment.

That estimate is based on available information and calculation.

Still, we will only know when the book is out ...

Absolutely true, that's why i stressed that the price estimate was rumor, nothing more, nothing less.

I for one look forward to this master piece!

Would love to see some hi-res preview pics!

Why not a e Book?

Would compliment the high res pictures when you are able to zoom in.

MRN has advised me that the CubanCigarWebsite will be officially authorised to use any pictures from his new edition.

We already hold written authorisation to use his pictures from the first edition.

I love books....especially limited editions of commercial books (on subjects that interest me).

The following example might be indicative of the difference between MRN's initial print run and an eventual commercial print run.

Here are the relative sizes of the MRN first edition (second printing) and Forshaw's "Australia Parrots". (Joseph Forshaw is a world renown expert on Parrots). Both of these are quality hardback editions.

The next photo is a special limited Collectors Edition of the same Forshaw book. Note it is double the page size and in multiple volumes (elephant folio 52cm - 21.25" tall). This release was limited to 1,000 editions.

The volumes come in a red cloth slipcase and are bound in dark-green variegated buffalo calf with a coloured inlay. The splines are lettered in silver foil.

So we have two editions, exactly the same content.....but one costing around 50 times more.

Yes, value is in the eye of the beholder.

Thanks for the comparison Trevor... I would definitely like to obtain a copy of the 1st run of the second edition but may have to wait for the second run. I have a first edition on the way to hold me over until then.

Out of curiosity can you share how you plan to use the photos from the new book? Completely replace current photos, fill in as needed, or some other plan?
