Trevor2118 Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Out of curiosity can you share how you plan to use the photos from the new book? Completely replace current photos, fill in as needed, or some other plan? Hi Trent, No idea at this stage, however as I will be fully handing over the CCW to Alex at the end of the year....it will be his decision (after consultation with MRN). Cheers, Trevor.
Nino Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 On the update topic : Here's a final update on the II Edition progress with many interesting new details - including the matter of eBooks .... that I received yesterday from MRN. Posted on my blog with permission of the author - along with a series of pictures of the prints. See : http://flyingcigar.d...from-hong-kong/ Nino 1
Puros Y Vino Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Thanks for the update Nino. It's an interesting view into the man himself. I do think his views on his ROI vs "stealing" via eBooks contradict themselves. Ebooks are about convenience first and foremost. Were his 1st Edition available in PDF I'd still want the physical book. The PDF would just help keep my dirty mitts off the book. A caution to subsequent posters. The last time this book was discussed the topic derailed and spiraled down the toilet. Let's avoid it this time shall we?
Trent0341 Posted January 3, 2014 Author Posted January 3, 2014 Thanks Trevor for the response. Thanks Niño for the post. I love his obsession with quality.

Thanks Frank, I am also "old fashioned" and love books, my office is 3 walls of books top to bottom ...:-) Being old-fashioned, I cannot comment on eBooks, except that they seem to exist. As for the topic - correct : this should be about the update only. 1
tmac77 Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 A caution to subsequent posters. The last time this book was discussed the topic derailed and spiraled down the toilet. Let's avoid it this time shall we? Are you inferring that some of us stray off topic a bit and need to be moderated Frank....well I never... . well sometimes okay good point.
Puros Y Vino Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Thanks Frank, I am also "old fashioned" and love books, my office is 3 walls of books top to bottom ...:-) Being old-fashioned, I cannot comment on eBooks, except that they seem to exist. As for the topic - correct : this should be about the update only. I;m with you on books Nino. My brother owns a bookstore. I used to work shift there on weekends. I've seen some really cool books come and go. I haven't gone the ebook route myself TBH. I still like handling books. I do hope MRN can pull off a "cheaper" edition once he gets through the Frankfurt release.
polarbear Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 The more i hear about this book the more i make peace with that fact that i will not be owning one in the near future While the 1st edition price is only an estimate I cant imagine a 2nd edition being less than 1/3 the price of the 1st edition. MRN seems driven to now only add to his first book but also prove to the world the quality of traditional printing and binding methods. As he has said, quality is not cheap and I imagine the MRN would rather produce a handfull of copies that meet his vision than thousands of copies that a normal cigar fan would be able to afford Perhaps a cheaper, less refined version of his 2nd book will hit the market in the near future but having heard all of thr trouble and work that has gone into making this book as close to a work of art as any before it, I doubt we'll see an 'affordable' copy hitting the market anytime soon This not a gripe, simply an observation

As for the topic - correct : this should be about the update only. Herr Munoz, The articulation of your relationship with MRN and insights in to both the man and his myths are highly appreciated. The image of the bookshelves and jars in your post above are great. Having seen your general storage techniques, I am curious, do you keep the cigars in the jars and monitor conditions, store separately, or have you already smoked them all? I am hoping to have an opportunity to pick up the new addition if it presents itself....tactile impressions and ownership of such a high quality production are so much more worth it than electrons and pixels to my mind, though there's nothing wrong with that either.
Nino Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 Herr Havanna, vielen dank, sehr freundlich von Ihnen. The jars are for decoration purposes only and their content is well cared for inside the Zarges metal boxes I use in the cellar. The cigars would be quickly ruined if I kept them unprotected in the dry rh + heating of the office atmosphere. Some contents have been smoked, though. Let's call it ... Qualitätskontrolle.
canadianbeaver Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 As a graphic designer who came up the ranks through traditional printing press approvals and digital printing, I totally understand where Mr. Nee is coming from. An eight colour Heidelberg blows the most advanced digital output out of the water. To give you a basic idea why, in addition to your 4 colour process work, you can add 4 other colour stations, including special colors like metallic inks, varnishes, double hit inks for richness or all of the above. However, with this old fashioned goodness comes exponential cost. In my humble opinion, added with custom binding and printing sexiness on the cover I am sure, worth every penny.
Nino Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 Darn Lisa, How many times I told you to keep mum about the sexy cover design .... Seriously : Thanks for the technical expertise.
CaptainQuintero Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 Interesting. Cost and value are certainly different things. For example Trevor's CCW is free to use but it's value is priceless; a timeless testament to passion and hard work. This magazine looks like it will be expensive but the value won't be determined until it is received and measured up against similar publications.
Puros Y Vino Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 On a side note. If a more "economical" version is years away, one thing MRN can do is make prints available of the more exotic items. They'll translate beautifully onto large format poster prints. I'm sure people will snap those up.

Indeed I'd love to have a 40th Anni Behike Print Hanging Above My Humidors Closest I will ever come to seeing one
