LeafLover Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 Smoked my 5th of the year last night from this box. I gave it time, dry boxed, not dry boxed. The majority tasted like NC's, one like newspaper, a couple had really tight draws. Been thoroughly dejected about this box so far. And I have another untouched box of it also. I hope that other box is not like this one..... Ramon Allones Allones Extra
Smallclub Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 RA Extra… I'm not surprised… I bought several singles from different boxes and hated them… agree with you they taste like NCs… To me, only one dissapointing box of 2013: RyJ Cazadores. What have they done to this cigar? They taste like mid range maduro NCs, they're not even strong…
ramon_cojones Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 there's your problem right there, ra extra
potpest Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 RA Extra… I'm not surprised… I bought several singles from different boxes and hated them… agree with you they taste like NCs… To me, only one dissapointing box of 2013: RyJ Cazadores. The box I have smells unreal, I think they need a couple of years before they get good, but the 2 i've tried are smoking very nicely
potpest Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 I find if a box is disappointing now, just lay it down for 6 months and try it again, you never know whats round the corner. No point keep smoking them I also almost always get a few singles of each box I'm considering before I commit, might be worth considering in the future.
khomeinist Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 RA Extra a testement to the power of bands.
Bclass1 Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 RA Extra a testement to the power of bands. This is very interesting as I'm a fan of RA. I was very much on the fence with picking up a box of Allones Extra because of all the mixed reviews since there release...the band is quite deseriable as it carries an old school feel.. Think this may have made up my mind..
LeafLover Posted December 14, 2013 Author Posted December 14, 2013 Well if, anyone is curious to try one....pm me and maybe we can trade. Maybe this might be more to soneo else's liking. Or, to satisfy a curiosity. Just throwing it out there.
backslide Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 I've adored every RA Extra that I've had the pleasure to smoke A fantastic stick that will only get better with age IMHO. Disappointment for the year has been my box of Cohiba Siglo I's from 2012
Laxman Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 Have heard very mixed reviews on the cigar. Not really interested in buying a box. I have been blessed so far every box I purchased this year has been stellar.
Cohiba Stevie Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 The RA extra is an amazing smoke!!! What im hearing is sacrilege! Lol Not that i have a box but the few double edmundos i have had are slightly underwhelming. Not much strength and flavours not pronounced
ramon_cojones Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 RA Extra a testement to the power of bands. THIS ^1000 Everyone knows I'm a huge RA guy (rafl) and I sold my box of these so quick like it was going out of style.
mk05 Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 To me, only one dissapointing box of 2013: RyJ Cazadores. What have they done to this cigar? They taste like mid range maduro NCs, they're not even strong… I can't imagine the disappointment. How much has it changed since the '90s?
sw15825 Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 Most disappointing is a box of 2009 PSD4. I have smoked 7 out of this box. Super dark wrappers, oils and all shaped nice, but utterGarbage. Tunnling newspaper with bitter dirt!
El Presidente Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 RA Extra a testement to the power of bands. So you can't enjoy something without having to be labeled a "band follower"? Remarkable.
polarbear Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 I was so impressed by the RA Extra I smoked earlier in the year I went out and hunted down a box I smoked a Nica Rusca (NC) that was nothing like what people have told me or any of the reviews I've read. So far thats the leader for me
khomeinist Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 So you can't enjoy something without having to be labeled a "band follower"? Remarkable. Haha. Just my thoughts in a rather polarizing cigar. Not so remarkable. I didn't refer to followers but I do think that marketing buzz helped the initial reception of this cigar. Hats off to HSA. Unfortunately the power of suggestion can't hide a fairly generic EL flavor profile. Of course is just my opinion but I know many smokers who agree with this assessment. Big deal. There are plenty of other cigars for the punters. PS. My favorite cigars get slagged all the time. The rest are no longer in production. The trendy replacements like BHK and RAE deserve a little piss-take from time to time.....
Guest rob Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 I agree with Khomi, in that the special release RA band likely did have people chasing them and creating a heightened demand. I believe this to be the case because I was also compelled to buy a couple of boxes for that exact same reason. Are they a good cigar? My assessment is that they are decent, but by no means worthy of the price premium they command. In a minute of browsing the current production catalogue I can think of at least a dozen better regular production smokes that represent far better value for money, with better consistency in smoking performance. I certainly don't begrudge anyone for buying, smoking or hoarding them though.
Lotusguy Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 I like my RAEs. They were also the last of the somewhat reasonably priced LEs before HSA went nuts with only $15+/stick releases. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

gigabyte056 Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 I have 3 boxes of the RAE, sampled one from each and all are very good. I am not sure these are the ones I would keep around in 5-7 years time but in the next couple of years I will go through all of them. Some might not like them, some do, if everyone likes the same thing, we can go with one brand for all...
LLC Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 I like my RAEs. They were also the last of the somewhat reasonably priced LEs before HSA went nuts with only $15+/stick releases. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk X3 I think the inexpensive price (in Havana) and the size of the cigar along with packaging and cigar itself lead to success of this release. I have had many from different boxes and have many boxes left. Even though one of the boxes was a bit boring the majority have been very good, especially considering the price.
Jah Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 A box of RASS I got earlier in the year. Almost all of them were under fermented. Wouldn't be surprised if the batch I got had Nicaraguan scrap tobacco used as some of the filler. Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk
Smallclub Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 Wouldn't be surprised if the batch I got had Nicaraguan scrap tobacco used as some of the filler. very plausible btw, I am stunned by the number of guys complaining about their recently acquired box of RASS. I'm glad I've replaced them with the Superiores three years ago…
