El Presidente Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 I cooked up a little BBQ last night for my kids. Now most times great steaks and snags form the backbone....but this week I wanted to do something a little bit different. When presented on the table the girls ran to the kitchen. Tom my youngest ate two and loved them. "crocodile wings" . If you haven't had crocodile it tastes like a mix between Chicken and Fish (texture of chicken). I baste them with oive oil and garlic and a healthy dose of cracked pepper. Brilliant!
CaptainQuintero Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 They come with free gloves!!! Sounds similar to monkfish?
polarbear Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 I love me some crocodile The local croc farm does Crocodile Sausages. Awesome tucker!
REASON Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 Thats looks delish Rob! I've only had it dozen or so time and every time loved it
potpest Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 Love trying new foods, especially meats; they look tasty.
stogieluver Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 We eat alligator around here. Wonder how it compares to croc.
SCgarman Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 Is this on the menu at the Outback Steakhouse in OZ?
El Presidente Posted November 18, 2013 Author Posted November 18, 2013 Is this on the menu at the Outback Steakhouse in OZ? I have only seen one "Outback Steakhouse" chain store in Brisbane....and no one was in it
khamy Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 We have crocodile served in a Laos restaurant here in a Sydney in the form of a salad called Larb Its very tasty and to me taste like chicken. Don't mind funky foods at all.
nick17 Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 Rob I don't know if I could eat that with the hands still attached like that but my dad just walked by as I was was reading this and gave me one of these "oh WOW alligator is grate I haven't had it in years" but Lose the hands and I will try it

Vortigan Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 Fantastic stuff! There's a butcher just a short walk across town here that sells croc and all sorts of other "exotic" meats including Impala,Camel,Alpaca and Kangaroo! Never given any of it a try yet, really ought to.
El Presidente Posted November 19, 2013 Author Posted November 19, 2013 look super but why leave hands? For flavor? I like it for effect The claws actually crisp up nicely and have a similar profile to crispy skin on salmon.
Garnerinho Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 Had some alligator this weekend on a golf vacation with my family. Was excellent and will definitely eat again when I get a chance.
Optic101 Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 Had the meat and like it, but never with skin. Guess nobody dare Looks delicious. Great idea.
Skyfall Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 Never had croc, but cook and eat gator all the time! I love it.
AndrewNR Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 Looks incredible Prez, Haven't had it with skin on before, To be honest I wasn't sure if it would've been edible with the skin on. Thought perhaps too firm to chew. Now that I know!.. Although.. The most exotic stuff you get here in Mildura is frozen game meats. Such a frustrating place to live as a foodie.

AndrewNR Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 Cods expensive and not readily available, Guess Murray crays are in the same boat. They're not overly versatile though.
Ryan Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 We eat alligator around here. Wonder how it compares to croc. I've had alligator in a southern style restaurant in Chicago and crocodile in Botswana at the in-laws. Unsurprisingly, quite similar. Fishy chicken sums it up. Both could probably be had in Florida, although the Florida crocodile is probably protected. Salt water would probably bring something else it too though, like how proximity to the sea affects the flavour of duck. The legs on the BBQ look great. I don't think it's something I'd miss though!
Mr.T Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 That is something you don't see everyday on a grill.....very cool! I tried crocodile a few times when I lived in Kenya, but I just couldn't get over the chicken/fish taste....
