How good are PLPC's?

Very good!

I remember our mate Smithy saying PLPC would be his "island cigar". I said bolivar PC but I reckon PLPC is quickly overtaking.

They are cheap, tasty and come in beautiful cabinets of 50. Consistent construction too. Good young or old.

What's not to love? What Cubans are all about IMHO.

I always have a few PLPCs with me when I go out for a smoke. They are pleasant to smoke, flavor cycles from honey to caramel to haystack every once in a while. Great conversation piece. Also a good chance that your new friend has never had one before and it's always a wonderful gift for them

I currently have 2 boxes with me in the humidor. The 2010's are like honeycombs, the 2012's has drier flavors like coffee bean and vanilla. Both are equally enjoyable

btw, they're considered a cheap PC in France – everybody (including me) prefer the Montecarlo or the modest panatela.

I like them fresh too.

I also like the montecarlo (never had the panatela but I've heard similar things) but prefer the heavier body of the PLPC.

The 2011's and 2012's are very approachable young. PLPC's 2010 and older needed a few years imho. I typically gave them 3 years before I would crack the cab open for the 1st stick.

While I tend to agree that most PLPCs need some time to rest, the newer years are smoking perfect ROTT! My 08 cab is just starting to pick up the subtle PL flavors we all love including that lovely caramel. But I have tried several 2012s and a 2011 that already have that flavor and inspired me to grab a couple cabs of 2012s. Overall, I would definitely recommend these bad boys as the price and the cigar are both winners.

Why wouldn't the reports be true? I suppose they're smokable during a BBQ party, after you ate tons of spiced meat and drunk one bottle of red wine… But if you want a strong young pc that won't kill your tastebuds the Bolivar is 10X better… IMO.

My 2011 Cab is coming around. Better than when I first got them? Definitely.

Another year or so and i suspect they'll be quite tasty.

They do seem to have more construction and burn issues than anything else I smoke, however. So the cheap price balances itself out over the few duds I've had.

Better than a Padron 1964 PC if you ask me, though.

I love the Marca and think that the PC's are fine. The Panetelas are fantastic and smoke them often. I went into a B&M in Vancouver the other day and saw a recently opened box of Montecarlos dated '05. Tried one and thought it was great. I'm going back for more!!!

I have always enjoyed the PLPC but, as others have mentioned above, it is better with 3 - 5 years on them as I have found them to be a bit inconsistent young.

My favorite PC. When they're on, their hard to beat. True, they're better aged. But, if I have some fresh, dark oily ones, they are my "go to" smoke. Great in the morning. Great before bed. Balanced strength and flavor.

I agree with this, I have a cab from late 2008 and they are still not quite ready for me. From La Corona.
