Por Larrañaga Panetelas. Box code: RUE DIC 11. Vitola size: 5x37.

Cold Observations: Another skinny box-pressed Cuban. Interesting. Wrapper is very flakey and bumpy. Cold aroma is very mild and creamy. Cold draw is tight and rather flavourless.

Opening third: Light-bodied with vanilla cream, barley sugar, and avocado. Not outstanding or particularly complex, but pleasant enough.

Middle third: A distinct dried grass/hay note coming through all of a sudden, effectively replacing the sweeter notes (however retaining the somewhat creamy texture). Still very light-bodied.

Final third: So mild I'm struggling to pick out ANY flavours. Maybe a little honey and vanilla, but you have to really hunt for it.

Nothing off-putting about this one which is a nice change after that Trinidad Coloniales, but there ain't much happening with this. Would make a good morning cigar if you have a nicotine addiction and don't like cigarettes, but pretty uneventful.

68/100

Hoping to review the 2007 PCC regional release soon; I've had one before and remember it being excellent.

I'm curious to know if you smoked all three (PLP, Trinidad Coloniales and HU No.2) back to back. If so, in what order? Thanks.

Ney. I've just been slack in posting my tasting notes, so when I had a moment I threw them all up on here at once.

I smoked the PLP yesterday, the Upmann on Sunday and the Trinidad last Friday.

Haven't had this but I'm a fan of the PLPC. Have you tried those? I find them rather flavorful, not complex but flavorful.

I haven't. I'd like to, maybe I'll seek that out next. I loved their 2007 Pacific Regional Release robusto.

The PL panetelas that I've smoked have all been little powerhouses. Have yet to find a really mild one.

68/100????? I've smoked 4 boxes and have 2.5 sitting in my humidor now. I'd give it closer to a 90/100

Yup! I fully agree

Yeah, give it a shot...I've personally never had a bad PL, this review was rather surprising for me. I'd offer to send you one but I only have one PLPC left and it was gifted to me.

Fair enough, maybe they can get that good. All I can comment on was my experience of this particular one.

Too bad you had a bad one, it's one of my go to cigars and 95% of the time they have been great, although I remember one or two in around 3 boxes have been crap. But they are so cheap that you can toss it away an have a new one :D

Just had the pleasure of enjoying my first PLP.

Cold draw was pleasant and I "thought" the draw was fairly open so I toasted the foot and got too it. The first inch had me pondering about tossing it as it was turning out small amounts of smoke, very light flavor and the draw was aweful hard. The burn was funky and had to be touched up but as it's only been resting for a little more than a week it was no surprise. Being as this was my first sample I decided to tough it out until at least half way before it would find its way into a snow bank. So glad I did, after the first ash came off this little bugger really turned around.

Strong vanilla started coming in waves and the smoke really started showing up. A nice twang made its appearance and stayed with the stick until the end. The strength kicked up a notch at this point and stayed building until I started burning my fingers.

Not much on rating cigars but this was easily an 85 or higher as I really enjoyed the stick after it opened up. Sad that I only picked up a fiver of them but will have to track down some more it looks like. Don't have the box code but know this stick came from '12.

Enough for me! I'm ordering a box now. Thanks! :-)

These are a "no brainer" cigar. The poster child for Cheap and Cheerful. Will they be an epiphany? No, but they are very good for what they are and when on, are a very good smoke. As was said, there are duds but you can simply grab another one, as the cigars are not pricey. They do put larger, more expensive cigars to shame. I do prefer the PL Montecarlo but the PLP is a shorter smoke and great as a winter cigar.

I do not find them light, more light-medium bodied - medium flavour. I like these fresh and tend not to age them too long. They are the cigar I grab the most during winter and always have them in my humi. They are great with coffee!

I agree exactly with your sentiment. These are a great winter cigar which I am currently enjoying as my 'go to' cigar (I'm working through a May 2013 box), usually with black coffee. Yes, I've had one or two tight ones out of half a box so far, but most have packed a punch with flavour and volume of smoke. I'm very happy for taking the plunge on a cheap and cheerful like this one!

I had a PLP the other day and it was very nice. Lovely PL flavor with that mix of mild sweetness and and almost syrupy quality. Very pleasant. Not a great cigar by any means but definitely very nice on a budget.
