Spearing - is that considered fishing Ken? Nice fish.

not by me (just in case of any misunderstanding, it was nothing to do with me).

only posted it as it is the largest kingi i've seen.

We get some huge Kingis here in NZ. Would regularly see them diving underwater pinnacles around Coromandel and further down the coast at White Island (live Volcano).

Ken,

That is a massive fish! I believe (and i might be wrong, believe me...) that I (US) would call that a yellowtail amberjack.

I believe in NZ they call it the Yellowtail Kingfish.... what a beauty. That is massive.

i probably have to be corrected on this but my understanding is that yellowtail amberjack is a name that covers several "kingfish". a 'californian kingfish', a 'yellowtail kingfish' and a few others. i think that the ones around kiwiland are some of the largest.

and that certainly the largest i've seen.

Makes sense to me smile.png Just a tad bit off the IGFA world record from what I've read...

i assume their records don't include spearing something.

shame it wasn't on a fly or bait/lure and then released post photo.

My question is how, as an angler, did you resist rounding up to 50 kg? Easily done considering measurement error!
