So I have only had the pleasure of smoking one real CC. I have about 4 in my humi and really am waiting for a good time to sit and enjoy them.

The one I had was an RYJ and it was freakin fantastic LOL

Some of my favorite NC are Oliva Melanios, Fuente Hemingways, about anything witha creamy, earthy, nutty, woody flavor profile. Also enjoy a little spice with a touch of sweetness from time to time.

Need some reccomedations on a few good stoges to try. Don't really want to commit to a box just yet until I try some different ones. Are there any good samplers available?

Thanks!

Here is the first piece of advise. You have now had a good Cuban cigar and have started the first of a long obsession. When you try new sticks some from one box will taste better from another, so buy at least 5 packs. You smoke non Cubans now so remember as you get into Cubans they are NOT made as consistently well as non Cubans nor do they taste as consistent stick to stick. Rule of thumb (others here may disagree with me) non Cubans make a much superior product that is rolled with inferior tobacco. So keep that in mind when you purchase Cubans. I wouldn't recommend buying blind at first. Get you some good HQ's that are reportedly smoking well off the truck so you don't have to wait a year to see how it tastes. Take it slow.

From the non Cubans you listed I would recommend trying

Boli BF

Mag 46

JL no 2

Punch PC

Parti 898

R&j caz

R&j Cedros no3

VR unicos

Good advices youve been given already - I would personally recommend having a few partagas shorts, montecristo petit edmundo and bolívar Royal corona, as they represent the cuban taste well to me without being overly expensive

Welcome and my advice is buy a bigger humidor . . . sorry a much much much bigger humidor :)

I have gone from a 50 count, to 100 count, to 14 qt cooler, to 50+ quart cooler and finally I have converted two wine fridges to wineadors. All in the span of 2 years. I guess some of us actually have a disease :)

Again, welcome.

Based on your description a good Montecristo should be what the doctored ordered. I can recommend the Montecristo Petit Edmundo and No. 2 to start. H. Upmann will also excite you as well. Try 46, 50, Petit Corona and the Upmann No. 2 (after a big meal). Good luck and enjoy.

Welcome to FoH.

What RyJ was it exactly? Such a diverse marca.

My only advice to you is, figure out if you want this hobby, and if you do, get a big refrigerator/freezer (doesn't have to be in working order). Don't really worry about if you like a cigar or not. Just buy whatever is the best deal atm. I guarantee that even though you hated the box you may have purchased, in 3yrs or so, you'll love it. In fact, starting out, it's actually bad if you like the cigar you buy, because you can't age them!

Have fun

Don't recall exactly which one. As far as wanting this hobby.... Guarantee it!!!! LOL Been smoking cigars off and on for about 12 years but just got into it heavy over the last year. As of right now I'm overstocked if that is possible biggrin.png

Wasn't until recently that I experienced a great cuban and now I'm on a mission to stock up and try to stay out of them until properly aged LOL.

Sure do appreciate all the good info and advice on my new venture into what will only make another day in my life much better.

Any bets on how long it'll take until he unloads the NC's stir.gif

Aging a cuban cigar is usually always a good thing, but getting the correct vintage or box code for a particular cigar is the real trick, and it's tricky LOL. Rob picks good cigars. Cellin and mk05 both give good advice. When I started, I just started buying boxes... whatever looked good on the forums here. Can't say I've every been disappointed and I've bought more boxes here than I wish to count. Can't say the same for my NC's, plenty of trash... if you're asking me.

Welcome! I suggest you to browse on the forum. You'll be able to learn a lot about a bunch of cigars and, probably, will be able to make a better choice. Cubans are truly the best cigars. They are like a fine burgundy pinot noir. Every cigar has it's flavors and character, enjoy!

1) take all the free credit card offers you can. You will need them!

2) don't just try the popular stuff.

3) email Rob or Smithy and ask them what is good in the humidor and let them put some together for you.

4) don't judge any cigar by one cigar!

5) these are not Dominican (Domrockets). You need to keep them much dryer than NC's.

Welcome. Share your experience and be known. The community is almost as good a smoking!

Cheers! -Piggy
