My favorite venue was in Chicago... a cigar store in Greektown... 7 minute walk from the condo... served drinks and some food to regulars... shop mostly filled with old Greek guys playing backgammon. I was the only Chinese guy ever there. There was a little recessed area in front of the store windows. They would pull out a small table and chairs to sit on the sidewalk. Coming home from a long week on the road, I would grab some dim sum in Chinatown for a late breakfast. Afterwards, meet my friend Demitri at the cigar shop. At the store, I am greeted by my "Greek mom." Her name is Angela. She's kind of milfy She fetches our drinks without having to tell her anything... Greek coffee... "metrio." As we toast up some '94 La Gloria Med d'Or #4... coffee arrives. We spend the next hour enjoying the smokes... sipping a second Greek coffee... shooting the "sheeet"... and watching the honnies bounce up and down the sidewalk in their summer outfits, on the way to brunch. In order to cleanse our palates, we have Anglea whip up some gelato sundaes with freshly toasted almonds, Greek sour cherries, and chocolate sauce. As we enjoy our sundaes like little kids, people curiously stare at our sundaes... see the overhead sign stating "Georgio's Cigars"... and continue walking with confused looks on their faces. Feeling indulgent, we decide to have another cigar... so I pull out some '94 Bolivar Coronas to light up. While we continue to smoke and enjoy the "scenery," we hear a guy say to his friend as they walk by, "Man..... that's the life right there!" So love the snow Believe it or not, not only is he an old College great friend and was a Groomsman in my wedding, this ding dong is actually one of the top young attorneys in Dallas. Go Figure..... (What you don't see is that he is outside in the freezing cold at a poker table with dudes, and the only thing he has on ither than the fur is underwear!!) nonameno Posted December 11, 2012 Share Posted December 11, 2012 Hello Fellow FoHers, My preference is for outdoors. The caveat to that is naturally the weather. Right now is non-cigar season with the winter weather here. I find that smoking outdoors, I seem to taste and smell the aroma of the cigar smoke more clearly. When I do smoke in a cigar lounge, the aromas get all muddied by all of the other smoke in the air. I just wish I lived somewhere conducive to smoking 12 months a year instead of maybe 6 months. LDOG Posted December 11, 2012 Share Posted December 11, 2012 I am an outdoors smoker. Their are plenty of sheltered pubs where I live too with patio heaters! I do get a few odd looks from people when I am by myself though, which is rare. My garden has sheltered bits too so I am always at a good spot no matter where I go! Dbone Posted December 11, 2012 Share Posted December 11, 2012 I honestly can not remember the last cigar I smoked inside. Although, that's not really by choice because I don't often visit cigar bars. Due to the family man lifestyle, my day is active with kids and work pretty much all the time. If it's not one thing its another. I get my usually weekend smoke with a cup of coffee early in the AM before the house wakes up, otherwise I keep a 3 finger cigar case locked and loaded. Whenever I find a good 30 - 45 minutes I'll burn one off and take a breather. I would image I'd miss out on the fresh air if I moved inside. CigarB Posted December 11, 2012 Share Posted December 11, 2012 I'm not usually a fan of outdoor smoking because I like dead calm to allow the smoke to waft around, over, under, and through my head and nose. I agree, a breeze can quickly challenge my cigar experience. If I can find a dead calm day, I'm all for outside. However, I've found smoking in my garage with a friend or two a great experience. The leather chairs are nice, the ambience can be great (Stanza in Boston was great....but more "pub feel" than cigar lounge"). Yet, I feel a tad restrained and claustrophobic....sit on the couch...squirm like a cat, order a coffee and a rum.....normally leave after 20 mins. The back room at Stanza is nice, and you did seem to be somewhat content...However! Rob, Ross, and I witnessed Ayala's squirming at Churchill's. 18 or so different positions in the chair including a very awkward lying down position. Once this mission is accomplished.... ...next option is local smoke shop (owl shop) and **** with the workers/owners and always find someone to wave my cuban in there face while they smoke some crap from Dom./Nic... I'm trying to get the gist of your nature, Strider, but for the life of me, some of these posts lately seem like more and more "wanker" material to me. Hopefully this is a big tongue-in-cheek joke. I think this gives a better perspective of Strider's charecter. then offer them one ofmine. strider I can't really see how a person generous enough to give cigars to randoms makes him a wanker. I'm just not sure what his meaning is in there, that's why I didn't include that last part. Its the pattern of writing in recent posts, not just this one. To insult people by blowing smoke in their faces, and to make fun of their "crap" cigars, and wave your own in their face....but then to try to make it all better by giving them one of yours after, is still being inconsiderate and rude, IMO. There are people on FoH from every culture, country and language; you're not always going to 'get the gist' of everyone, there's simply no need to call someone out for a light-hearted post unless you want FoH to be a sterile and boring place where everyone posts with 100% political correctness and shows no personality what-so-ever.
