acidmase Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 Besides Bolivar Gold Medals does anyone else still produce this roll? Thanks Rob
Colt45 Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 I believe the only cervantes still in production are the Montecristo No.1 and the RyJ Cedros de Luxe No.1
Pilgrims Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 Such a shame it is a great size!! If they were Straight the Partagas Culebras wouldn't be far off!!
acidmase Posted November 25, 2012 Author Posted November 25, 2012 Didn't they discontinue gold medals?
tydra Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 I believe they were only produced for a few years but then discontinued around '10/'11. I have a number of boxes from '08. You should still be able to find them around, and for a relatively decent price still.
CaptainQuintero Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 I think the GMs were deleted then brought back as a LCDH release and then stopped again either because they are only going to produce them every few years or they are deleting them again?
mazolaman Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 Greetings from the land of Don Quixote. You can still get Fonseca no 1...another good Cervantes, one of my fave sizes.
Wil Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 Boli Gold Medals are great smokes. It's a great size. Shame there aren't more available.
CaptainQuintero Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 The Fonseca #1 is history now. I guess if you squint you could put the siglo v and partagas 898v into the ring but they are dalias, I suppose in this day and age...meh take what you can get!
rfenst Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 I believe the only cervantes still in production are the Montecristo No.1 and the RyJ Cedros de Luxe No.1 Vegas Robaina Clasicos Sanch Panza Molinos
Smallclub Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 You can still get Fonseca no 1...another good Cervantes, one of my fave sizes. The Fonseca No. 1 is NOT a cervantes, it's a cazadores.
mazolaman Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 The Fonseca No. 1 is NOT a cervantes, it's a cazadores. I STAND corrected.
mk05 Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 http://cubancigarwebsite.com/list.aspx?current=true ctrl+f, "cervantes"
Geo17pip Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 Love that size and similar ones! Too bad Cuba thinks everyones a chubby chaser.
bassman Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 RyJ Cedro #1. Nice cigar, Needs age to pick up the cedar overtones.
mazolaman Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 Picked up a couple of Partagas Lonsdales today, also considered a cervantes by Trevors site.
demiurgic Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 Such a Glorious Size! Currently BGM kicks my butt with a nic buzz more than any other smoke in the humi. Didn't a German LCDH re-commission a bunch of these a short while ago? I mean, they have the reciple, the tobacco, the know how....
PigFish Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 Cervantes is the classic 42 ring lonsdale. While not commenting on what is currently produced the most direct comparison for me would be the classic Partagas 898 comparison. The 898V is of course a Dalias. The 898NV was a cervantes. Cervantes included most of the #1 cigars. Monte, Diplo etc. A typical branded lonsdale would more than likely be a cervantes than a dalias. SP Molinos, Party Lonsdale, RG Lonsdale, VR Clasicos, Bolivar Lonsdale and SLR Lonsdale are (were) all cervantes.
Zigatoh Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 Cervantes/Cazadores/Lonsdales/Dalias - IMO all close enough, unless you like to pull out a ruler and some kind of ring gauging measuring device every time you smoke??
Smallclub Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 The 898NV was a cervantes. Sorry but no; it was a Corona Grandes, like the Hoyo des Dieux, Siglo III, Montecristo Tubos, Punch SS1, etc.
PigFish Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 Sorry but no; it was a Corona Grandes, like the Hoyo des Dieux, Siglo III, Montecristo Tubos, Punch SS1, etc. I'll be damned if you're not right! I don't know why I make the same mistake with this cigar every time I talk about it. I somehow seem to forget about the Coronas Grandes vitola de galera. Good call. By the way... I too often seem to leave the last (s) off of Coronas!!! Cheers! -the Pig
canadianbeaver Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 Here's a question for you. Is cervantes a brand applied designation, like a cazadores or siglo? So, a cervantes in one marca could be a londsdale/cazadores in another?
PigFish Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 Here's a question for you. Is cervantes a brand applied designation, like a cazadores or siglo? So, a cervantes in one marca could be a londsdale/cazadores in another? You changed your avatar! The damn thing scared me!!! -LOL According to Habanos literature there are two types of names for cigars. There is a factory name, a manufacturing designation (my words) and a common, or market name. The factory name is referred to as the vitola de galera. The market name is referred to as the vitola de salida (you might have to check my spelling). The universal term for size(s) is vitolas. Cervantes is a factory name and has a designated size. Lonsdale is a market name, as would be (Brand) #1. You will find sometimes where they overlap. There is a factory name designated as Petit Coronas as well as Marevas. If you look up the official factory name of many Petit Coronas they may be designated by their vitola de galera as Marevas! Many consider smaller cigars Petit Coronas or Half Coronas but there are many designated small cigar sizes. There are such names as Favoritos, Minutos, Perlas, Trabucos etc. Some of which I might not have spelled correctly! Hope that helps. -Ray
