Whilst I have no problems with laws to moderate alcohol consumption, especially for the youth, I'm a little sick and tired of Big Brother taxing the hell out of me!

Floor Price on Alcohol

Instead of punishing everyone financially, how about just punishing the offenders instead? Drink too much and get in a fight? Off to jail plus a massive fine, buddy! Drink & drive? Off to jail and bye-bye car!

Why do they quantify their decision making process on protecting the "young people ".

To my way of thinking they are not getting Blotto on wine ,to me it's just another TAX :tantrum::forkyou:

Do to the short fall in revenue because of Labors gross miss management of this country's economy .

They said on the News this morning "the days of cheap wine" are over,my question is we're they ever here.

The only Piece of Solace I can find is a the next Fed Election Labor should get the caning of there collective history's lives ,and that's worth a good Non plain packaged cigar and a bottle of overtaxed Red

Rant finished

Cheers OZ :cigar:

Yup, before you know it your gonna need to ask permission to take a dump. I got yelled at by a mother in a park behind my place yesterday for all the smoke coming from my bbq (was smoking ribs!) I was also smoking a big ol churchill cigar too which i'm sure she loved....

You what about ME!!!!!!!!!

My eyes popped out my head yesterday when I read the paper about the price of a bottle of wine going up because the youth of today can't handle their drink or whatever the reason is .......

Why do I and many others have to punished ????

Looks like I have to work longer hours and maybe weekends so I can enjoy a nice glass of wine these days :surprised::party: or just ask for a pay rise from Rob :rotfl:

Sorry I just had to pick myself of the floor from laughing anyway back to work :pooped:

I suggest an 18 to 30 year old Tax :stir::idea:

I'm about to start making moonshine in my bathtub, seems like soon enough i'd make more money doing that than working for a living! I'd then also be allowed to talk like a mountain man (no disrespect to West Virginia, i'm technically still registered to vote there).

It is the same strategy they used with Tobacco. Frst it was to protect the kids, then to protect those working in pubs and clubs, and then to protect you as you are an idiot for smoking

Take people like Di for instance. She single handedly maintains the Sauvignon blanc industry in both Australia and New Zealand. If she has to cut consumption then a few things will happen:

  1. The industry will collapse
  2. She will get grumpy
  3. I will pay for her grumpiness

I am fairly sure this whole proposed alcohol volume tax is a Nicola Roxon plan to target me by getting at Di.

They are ruthless :D

Wait, wait, wait!

This is going to reduce Di's Sauv Blanc consumption? Time to start riping out the vines, the industry is going to collapse!!

I dont think many of us buy wine in casks or wine that is less then $10 a bottle anymore (nuthin wrong with it, if its your cup of tea).

That being said, if we let this little trojan horse in the door, it opens up the gap for a herd of brumbies next time.

Someone hand me a plank of wood to wedge the damn door!

Di,

I will defend you here, along with the others who were on the deck on Friday afternoon will agree that Di may be propping up the Sav Blanc industry but Rob on Friday was being propped up by the walls, table, kitchen bench anything that was solid. In the two attempts I saw him to pour himself another glass of wine the table wore most of it.

Rob as Ken would say, Pot kettle, pot kettle!

Smithy, let's face facts. The whole FOH gang are propping up the wine industry. When you guys change from drinking one type of liquor to another, people in ther industry take note and make the necessary changes to their supply chain!

Thanks Smithy.... that is why YOU are my favourite here at Czars (you get special lunches from now on) :hungry:

as for the great leader upstairs ..... well what can i say after Friday nights little show the vineyards of Australia, New Zealand, France and so on and so on are well supported by Rob.

All you have to do Rob is slip a little extra in my pay every Friday to pay for my wine on the weekend and all is good

where do you start on this.... im furious, the wine industry has already suffered and uprooted alot of vines thats why there is an abundance of cheap wine.

im an liquor assistant and all i see is more criminals going to steal and do the grab and run, and how about the B&E's that will happen watch the crime rate go up, not just on the shops but also homes.

why do people have to suffer for enjoying themselves in moderation for the few that abuse it.

maybe i should get that spirit still :daydream:

From what I understand the Ozzy economy is pretty good. Wait folks to when these lousy (insert your favorite ...ist word her) concepts start to really affect it and then you can really prepare to get mad.

My friends these laws are about two things. They are about the same two things in every country that they are implemented. They are about control (dependence) and taxation. There are no altruistic politicians. There are those that believe people should be free and those that they should be controlled. If you find one that preaches freedom, vote for him/her.

I would rather live in a world with more risk and less control. -Piggy

It's revenue for the local/state/national government, so whatever excuse is needed will do..."To protect the c-h-h-i-l-l-d-r-e-n!" <_< S-u-r-r-r-e. In the tiny, tiny event I may be wrong about the motivation for this, it's just like when we're on our job and some butthole screws up/or abuses some policy. So management makes a new memo to office that there's a change in policy to address this from now on...and it negatively affects EVERYBODY. We've all complained to our stupidvisors that this was the fault of that one individual so why can't just that individual be dealt with instead of punishing us ALL!?? The only answer everyone concludes is they're too cowardly to confront that guy/gal, so from on high and way out of the danger zone here's the "new law." And people who've been obedient and given no problem to anybody high or low at all have to pay the price.

I would disagree that that is the reason for the abudnance of cheap wine. There are many factors that have caused this situation; bumper crops, high AUD, weak demand in the US and UK, bulk shipments as opposed to bottling locally, etc. However, a lot of the glut is due to the number of vineyards that popped up when the govt was offering tax incentives over the last 2 decades.

A lot of vineyards that should go out of business, or really should never have gone into business in the first place, have been propped up by rebates from the WET. A lot of these small vineyards have no option but to sell to the bulk wine market, thereby increasing the cheap wine abundance.

The only saving grace right now is the fall in harvest yields over tha last 2 years. As long as Aussie wine prices stay competitive, we can sell through some of this glut. Though this will be tough with the US having fantastic harvest conditions this year.

Shaking my head in disbelief at this news (here in Loire valley in Fance, sipping on a very decent 3 euro bottle of red).
