ATGroom Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 I was recently sent these images of the typewriter Ernest Hemmingway used in Cuba during the late 30s and early 40s. Someone (presumably Ernie), has replaced the shift key label decal with a cigar band. The band has been cut, and only the centre portion remains. It depicts a cigar superimposed on a globe. I’m trying to identify the band. Not a lot to go on, I know, but thought I’d throw it up here in case it rang any bells with anyone.
Paul3 Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 Can't help with the band, but wow! What a piece of literary history. I could only guess what that would go for at auction.
Hoshneer Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 That is amazing... Sent from my SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
Ken Gargett Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 fantastic stuff. i always recommend to anyone visiting havana that they definitely get out to the finca. just amazing. (you should try it some time, rob). first time i went, took out a bottle of champers which we had in the grounds (hemingway planted around 400 mango trees, from memory). i like to think it was the first bottle enjoyed on the property since hemingway himself popped a cork. given that the govt locked the place down and have carefully monitored it ever since, who knows, it just might be.

OZCUBAN Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 There's no doubting that Hemmingway was and is a Legend And great articles and fast research OZ

Trevor2118 Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 Hi, This might help. I did a bit of searching and it looks like it is a stamp and not a cigar band. It's a Cuban 2c 1939 "Havanna Tobacco Industry" stamp. Some info: http://stampwants-st.../7868739/a.html Larger view of stamp: http://www.poppe-sta...web/2107171.jpg Another site: http://madios.com/list39-02.htm Larger view of stamp: http://madios.tripod...ist39/39273.jpg Hope it helps That's certainly what it is. Great work.
ATGroom Posted September 26, 2012 Author Posted September 26, 2012 Great work Toofargone, many thanks!
CaptainQuintero Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 I clicked on this thinking it was a new A.Fuente cigar
brazoseagle Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 Not only is this a great piece of history, but it is in fact the exact title of one of the hardest sexual maneuvers to master! It takes years of experience and disciplined training. From what I hear there are numerous versions of the Ernest Hemingway's Typewriter: Uptempo One-legged Zero Gravity Back shuffle Loop-d-loo Submarine Traditional Shenanigan Style (TSS) Used in a sentence: "Me and the old lady attempted Ernest Hemingway's Typewriter last night, unfortunately it was not a success and I will be in a lower body cast for 6-8 months, and her hair shouldn't have any problem growing back."
Ken Gargett Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 ( tough crowd) i think 'discerning' was the word you were after!!
