Freefallguy Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 Although it’s near summer’s end here I wanted to posit this question…What cigar is your “lawn mower cigar”? Some time back Rob told me his was a culebra but they're hard to come by now. Thoughts? On a somewhat related matter how low do you cut your lawn? Aside from a golf course I’d never seen any as low (2cm) as our El P’s. Claim was it kept the brown snakes at bay. I know this topic is very subjective but I’ve seen folks proud of their 4”(10cm)lawns. Really?? Do you cut through the winter?
Guest rob Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 I'm having new lawn put in in about 2 months... The current lawn is in a terrible state and infested with Couch grass. I just need to work out what 'species' of grass to put in. I use a ride on. I got it a few years back for free. A mate of mine was getting rid of it because it needed work. A little bit of work on the motor and battery.... And I was good to go. It's been a great acquisition as my lawn mowing time has gone from 4 hours... to 40 mins!! Oh, and my lawn mowing cigar is usually something like a Party Short.... or similar. I don't try and stock crappy cigars so even my garden smokes are good ones
Wicky Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 Try as I might, I cannot work and smoke at the same time. I save it, for when the work is finished. To sit, smoke and admire. As for the lawns, lush and carpety. About 3" or so.
vanbellc Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 I stick to the cheap NCs for the yard work so I don't feel as bad when I run over it with the mower after I set it down! As to the grass height for the lawn, it really depends on the type of grass. Where I'm located, Kentucky Bluegrass is the most common and it need to be 3"-4" in the summer. However if you go further south and have zoysia or Bermuda grass or some other warm weather type, they can generally be cut much shorter without any negative consequences.
Cohiba Stevie Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 Jose L. Piedra nacionales. Cheap, and oddly enjoyable cigars that you dont mind chewing on lol.
Smallclub Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 Jose L. Piedra nacionales. I prefer the Petit Cazadore. As a matter of fact, Piedras have never been as pleasant. Few years ago you'd never have seen me smoking a Piedra, they tasted like dirt and dust, but since 2007 (I think) they are a completely different animal.
Dbone Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 It's difficult for me to mow and smoke at the same time. Smoke gets in my eyes, I breath it up my nose and cough, drool if i have to bend over to pick up a stick or rock in the yard. Mowing and smoking, just not my thing. I have no idea why my wife married me, defiantly not because Im a coordinated cigar smoker LOL

pjansen Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 I live in an apartment as I am in college so I dont have a lawn, but I do have a grill and love to smoke a yard'gar type cigar while I am grilling. My choice is a Quintero Panetelas.
Bartolomeo Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 These are all good yard/grilling smokes IMHO: ERDM Demi Tasse Upmann Majestic Party Shorts PL Panetelas I now smoke NC's when I am drinking heavily......used to smoke good Cubans but found myself not enjoying them as much sober, especially while I am exchanging dialogue with the opposite sex, the cigar takes a back seat...... Bart
kps Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 I do not smoke until i am finnished mowing. I cant enjoy it while working. My cutting height is just under 3".
Guest robustog Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 I have close to an acre that I mow. I enjoy puting the tractor in 1st gear an putting around. I normally select an NC just to try different ones (I don't normally smoke NCs). If I don't like it I'll toss it and try another, if it is ok or good I keep mowing. Occasionally I find one that I really enjoy, when I do I park the tractor and concentrate on the cigar, then I finish mowing.
buster Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 Partagas de Partegas No. 1 from '00. As a rule, I don't try to pick up "yard gars", only cigars I really wanted to smoke. Picked up from "another vendor" a few years ago for practically nothing on a lark. When they arrived, they looked like they were refugees from an actual fire sale, smoked pretty harsh. After a year in the humi, they're actually smoking pretty wel. Been smoking them the last two years for lawn and yard work. As for grilling... that's my "daddy" time out on the deck, my time of day to relax. As long as the windows are closed in the house, I'll pick whatever I enjoy that I feel like smoking. Rick
backslide Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 PLPC or Boli PC's A PC is just the right size for my yard work.
Pilgrims Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 anything in the Humi that is looking a bit tatty or damaged, often ends up being a great smoke
cgarner Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 I don't smoke when I'm doing yard work. Smoking while exerting myself when it is warm outside always makes me sick.
Jnaube Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 For me, it's the Monte Edmundo. There is just something about this cigar that screams smoke me while you work outside.

OZCUBAN Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 I generally don't smoke whils doing yard work ,but then I generally don't do any yard work Seriously I use the cigar as a reward mechanism ,for a job well done OZ
tempbond Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 I always try to smoke something while on my riding mower, just one more of the few opportunities I have to smoke a cigar. I usually smoke somekind of forgotten stick I have in the bottom of my NC humidor, something I wouldn't bring with me to go smoking with my buddies. I also like JLPs, but my favorite one is the Crema. Amazing value if you can buy them at or near cuban prices.
kjellfrick Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Any of the NC's I've been gifted or bought in a previous life...
