ajgagnon Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 OMG... it's the one hot day/week of the year and my humidor is screaming! We don't have any sort of A/C. It's also quite full so I hope I don't get any beetles!
Ginseng Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 What sort of humidor is it? If you've got a cooler, then you might try draping it with wet towels and placing a fan in front of it. The evaporative cooling can work wonders. If your humi is wood, or a cabinet, I'm not sure what a good option might be. Wilkey
ajgagnon Posted July 9, 2012 Author Posted July 9, 2012 It's a 400-ct box with legs. Think it was called a Genevieve. I don't think I'll put anything wet on it. I might put it in the basement (dugout)...
Ginseng Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Basement for sure Absolutely. You didn't mention you had a basement. Wilkey
IcedCanuck Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Happens to me all the time with my humis. Temps in my coolidors are just as high. I go through every box a minimum of once a month looking for mould in these temperatures. A couple nights ago when I was restocking my humidors from my coolidors I found a couple spots of mould on a couple sticks in one box. I may actually start going through every box a little more often in this heat. Been dealing with it for a couple years and have not had any major issues.
Jnaube Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 1341813348[/url]' post='321674']Freeze your cigars! And here. We. Go! Not a bad idea.
ZinZan Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 I've been keeping cigars above 30c for nearly 2 years, no problems whatsover, although i just bought chiller so will migrate my stocks to that.
davidl Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 The room my cigars sit in stays at ~83F 42% most of the summer..so a thermoelectric cooler is pretty much a must for me
iGrizz Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Well... at least you didn't break the lid off your only humidor last night trying to stick the hydrometer back to the lid...
Smallclub Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 I go through every box a minimum of once a month looking for mould in these temperatures. I've said it before: in my experience, the apparition of mould is NOT related to high temperatures. Whenever I had a case of mold, it was winter, in a box at the bottom of tupperdor (close to the cold ground), which had not been open since long.
ajgagnon Posted July 9, 2012 Author Posted July 9, 2012 Absolutely. You didn't mention you had a basement. Wilkey Just a dirt dugout like a crawl space for the furnace. Anyway, I did move the whole thing down there for the hot weeks. It's humid down there, too, but I was unsure about having dirt mould introduced. Better than beetles, I suppose. It's hardly worth the effort having A/C in my town, but this experience points to the value of a wine fridge humidor... more room too! Thanks, all.
riazp Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 so glad I invested in a A/C unit...summers in montreal are too damn humid. I would never get any sleep if I didnt have my A/C...plus it keeps my cigars cool. 2 for 1 lol
pjansen Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Been trying to engineer a cheap solution to keeping plastic coolers below 65 during the summer. If I can't figure it out it's wine cooler time.
Ophidion Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 I have an apartment so I just keep my apartment cool with AC. It helps that my fiancé likes cold temps so my sticks stay around 69-71F year round.
CaptainQuintero Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Move to England, you'll never had to worry about beetles ever again!
riazp Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Move to England, you'll never had to worry about beetles ever again! Unless you move to Liverpool LOL
nikesupremedunk Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 get a wine cooler. depending on how much money you spend you can get a very nice set up with cedar draws and stuff. but i'd get a AC first for creature comfort unless you're never at home.
