As you are all aware Di has made a pledge to do Dry July. :rotfl: I know its funny but we are here to support her. Just a second need to wipe the tears from my eyes I am laughing to much.

In supporting Di I asked to set a goal for the month so she has something to focus her energy on. She said Shoes! Shoes??? Yes she said the money she is saving during this month will now go towards a shoe shopping adventure in Hong Kong!

Well done Di you have a goal now to aim for and this is a little thread where you can add your support to Di and she can keep us informed of her progress. Of cause if she doesn't give us daily updates I am sure Rob and I will step in and add our owe two bobs worth on her progress.

Keep up the good work Di! :2thumbs:

I thought I would start the ball rolling.

Last night as we do most Monday's Rob, Di and I sat down to plan out the week and identify the issues we might be facing. Rob suggested we go over the road to the local pub for a steak, great idea and great steaks. Di was strong and had a soda water, Rob supported Di by having a soda water with a twist of lime. I supported Di by having a beer. :nyah:

Normal night discussed the week, cigars etc and people came and went around us. A couple left behind us and an elderly gentleman sat down nothing unusual there. We finished up 20 mins later.

So this morning we are all in the office and Di has a great smile on her face and announces to Rob and I how exciting it was to see Artie Beetson at the pub last night! Artie Beetson is a legend in Australian sport and a statue is actually being unveiled today at one of our sporting grounds.

Rob and I pause for a moment and say Artie Beetson, yeah Di said the guy who sat down beside us, how exciting????? Rob and I fall over laughing Artie Beetson you say Di, yep Big Artie! Rob and I still laughing an hour or two later....

The no alcohol must be causing a hallucinogenic effect on Di, as the great Artie Beetson unfortunately died last year.

This is going to be a cracking month, thanks Di in advance for the laughs.

Well done, Di! Best of luck with your plight! :)

PS) I couldn't seem to find her page on the site (perhaps it's under a code name ;) ) - is there a way to link to it so that we can chip in a buck or two... or is that against forum rules \ a bad idea?

Wait... so... what I'm getting out of this thread is that Rob doesn't pay his employees enough money to buy shoes... ?

I don't want to know what you all have to give up to afford underwear...

She said she was giving up booze for the month, not pot. :P

Good Luck Di you can do it, I did it for a 1 year it was one of the hardest thing I've ever had to do LOL. Just make sure you have a go to drink that you enjoy when everyone around you is wasted and/or drinking. Mine was cola with twist of lime, looks like a rum and coke therefore ppl wont break your balls, ask you 10000x questions why your not drinking, or think your crazy for not drinking lol. :spotlight:

I have thought about my response to Smithy's tale about our dinner meeting for the last day and I have no response but "what the hell was I thinking when I said that" especially to those two .

I have never seen two men laugh so much, but a least they know that I will always keep them entertained.

As for my week so far, going great and no desire to even have a glass of wine. So my kitty has just been started for my proposed 4 day weekend to Hong Kong, hopefully in October just before Rob leaves us for 3 weeks to go to Cuba.

As to the comment that Fuzz made I can't give up everything then I really would be boring

Wish me luck on the weekend

Di is doing well today only swore at computer 14 times so a little higher than normal but I put that down to not having a bottle on the table.

It has been a transition day really. The transition has come in the form of searching for websites about shoes. I think Di is moving from one obsession to another.

Well done Di keep up the good work there are hard days ahead.

Hi Di,

Good luck Di with your endeavors! It is always a noble cause to work to improve oneself, (of course I have had no luck whatsoever... :lookaround: )

Besides, shoes can be FUN! Look at all the fun Amelda Marcos had with shoes!

Best wishes,

Curtiss

Well it is coming the end of the first week and I have surprised myself, I haven't touched one glass of wine. I have thought about it many times, especially as Rob keeps putting one sale after another all week :forkyou: I personally think he is testing me but I will not be beaten !!!!

The test will this weekend, sitting around watching my ALF games and having dinner with my son drinking lime and soda. I am sure the guy at the bottle shop will be waiting for me on Saturday afternoon and will wonder where I am.

As for the support from Rob and Smithy well they will be at the function in Perth most likely drinking and drinking, as they won't have to look after me.

That is most likely why I wasn't invited this time but see now I am doing Dry July I would have behaved myself. :liar:

Anyway I will let keep you up to date on my first weekend and how it went.

Have a great weekend everyone

Got a little tied up yesterday, but need to congratulate Di on making it through Wednesday night. Outside of two eastern states of Australia the rest of the world won't understand but we had a big game of football. It is a great excuse to drink and make a fool of yourself, especially as Queensland won again.

But not Di she held strong watched the entire game with a soda water and called an early night. Well done Di you are on your way. :perfect10:

Keep it up Di, you're a strong lady!

I my self have had a dry week leading up to the Perth event ,but the flood gates will open tonight and Sat :hole:

When you sit down and look at your money saved ,and unboxing your new shoes ,you will feel a great sense of achievement ,and washed down with a nice Chardy will all be the sweeter

Keep up the good work ,Rob and Smithy will be doing enough drinking for all of you :stir:

Well done

Di stormed into my office this morning to tell me how proud she was that over the weekend she didn't touch a drop. Well done I said, that is impressive an entire week completed in Dry July and we have a couple of cases of Sav Blanc building up at the front door. :surprised:

But wait a minute, she was just a little too keen to tell me she hasn't touched a drop. You know how a kid says that they didn't take the last piece of chocolate cake even before you knew it was missing. In a sense admitting that they did take the last piece? I need to look into this a little more and report back, me thinks Di may have slipped over the weekend while Rob and I were in Perth.

I will get to the bottom of this...... :looking:

Smithy, sometimes when you find yourself at the bottom of a hole it is wiser to stop digging!

Have a little faith in Diana, I do.

You can do it. It gets easier. I quit drinking five years ago and it changed my life, but then again I could not handle my alcohol alcohol handled me.

Smithy Smithy Smithy you have little faith in me.

Let me tell you my weekend. While Rob and Smithy left on Friday afternoon at 1-30pm to fly to Perth I stayed back until 7pm to catch up on work with no interuptions, just bliss. Also to avoid driving past the bottle shop on the way home because after being here for 11 hours I was to tied to get out of the car. Firday night gone. Saturday up at 5am and started cleaning, my son thought I was crazy

The best part was going to lunch with the lovely Lisa, Dom and my other sister Lucy and ordering a lime and soda. After Lisa stopped laughing she looked at me and said "my god you are serious aren't you" and the ordered a glass of wine for her and Lucy.

Went home after a great lunch and watched my football games and drank Chai Latte.

Sunday up at 6am, cleaned again, this time my son got really worried and asked me if all was good.

God love him, not sure if he likes me being dry. :rotfl:

One week down 3 to go Hong Kong here I come

Smithy, do you drink much French Sauv blanc? I know you guys drink a lot (or with Di dry, some) NZ sauv, but I really like

French. Wine. Sauv. Unctuous. Delicious. Staff of life.

Enjoy Dry July Di! I had a great bottle of Chablis the other night. And I won't mention some recent Italians....
