I can probably squeeze one more box of sticks into my humidor before the thing starts to overflow with Cuban goodness. My problem is that I'm torn between two smokes, both of which I want, but I can have only one. It's coming down to either a box of Juan Lopez #2s or a box of Upmann Connoisseur #1. I'm looking for a nice Robusto that won't break the bank and it seems like these two are the front runners.

Your suggestions?

EDIT:

Oh no! I just saw the Bolivar Royal Coronas....now I'm even more kerfuffled...too many options.

I've had bad luck wtih my current jl2, about 3 plugged sticks but I would recommend over connies. Who has a stellar box code of jl2s they're smoking out of now?

Currently smoking from two cabs, both outstanding. Great consistency and no plugs.

TUB ABR10

SAO JUL 10

I've just gotten a 25 box JL#2: ABR DIC 11

Meh. Not that great. Inconsistent construction, boring. I wish they hadn't been recommended.

I have a 50 cab of RUA JUL10 and a 25 of TEM NOV09 on the go and they're both amazing. Of all the hundreds of cigars I've smoked, the JL2 has never once let me down either through flavour or being plugged/tight. Every one makes me question why I smoke anything else :)

Sorry for the hijack gents, SAO is what I have and they've been tight a lot of them will try another one to see if my luck changes. Robustos are one of my favorite vitolas and it's amazing I still get plugged ones from d4s to jl2s to famosos.

Boli Royal Coronas would be my pick of the litter.

Recent ones are smoking very well.

Connie 1, but they need 3 to 4 years then are so creamy with flavor it will blow your mind, imho.!! Mine are LSM 08. I have not smoked any from 09,10 or 11. Has anyone else tried these years?

I've been really happy with 2 robustos recently, both from 11. The R&J Short Churchills and the Saint Luis Rey Regios. I've haven't had a disappointment yet out of either box. With the R&J in particular, I've already started "hording" them. You know - where the cigars are so good, that as the box dwindles down you get really nervous and don't want to smoke any more out of the box - saving them for a special smoke.

Sorry for you. Mine have been perfect so far (I'm now half-way through this box of 25). Neither too tight nor plugged. Fingers crossed!

In order of what has been excellent:

1) Por Larannaga Robusto by a distant mile

2) Trinidad Robusto T 09

3) RASS >5yrs

4) Monte Edmundo >3yrs

Honorary mention: ERDM CS >5yrs personal favorite but not everyone's thing

Not enough CoRo experience to comment. HU Conn#1 have been here and there, and not enough experience to comment.

^you talkin about ap regional?

Love coros I have an el lag box chillin right now but they need minimum 3 years to shine. I've had choixs with 3 years that have been very good.

Have had lsm connies from 08 and they were meh though some swear by them. I have found my jl2s just recently started smoking well but not enough data to conclude.

I have yet to have a good JL. It taste like smoke. Same with Epis. Just taste like hot smoke.

I have some 07-09 Coros but havent even cracked the seal, bc the fuggin old guys told me to keep hands off.

ERDM is my favorite marca. Just so old school.

Yes the PL regional Robusto are phenomenal. Buy it. if you dont like it, I would trade you for the remainder.

That's what I used to say about JLs until this week, still not enough data though. I've had a few 06 epi 2s that were nice, but 08 d4s blew everything else out the water (as did coros). Of course vintage rass are king.

I think all cohibas need a ton of time, then the vanilla and caramel starts to come out and that's when you know.

I've smoked a couple of those aps maybe year or year and a half ago and they did nothing for me but maybe they're nice right now like you say.
