ChanceSchmerr Posted June 18, 2012 Posted June 18, 2012 For those wondering at my spotty replies to messages, posts and emails of late - tomorrow morning (Monday) is the final Board exam of my career. Known as the Head of Department (HOD) Board, I basically stand up in front of a Commander and other senior engineers, who question me for 3+ hours to see if I have what it takes to brief the Ship's Captain as the Engineering Officer. If I'm successful, I gain my HOD qualification and am through the final phase of my training. I'll be qualified to be THE Engineering Officer on a ship. The whole last year on ship has been in preparation for this, and as you can expect, I've been studying for months, with practise boards and the like. I'm confident, but nervous as hell. Rest assured that many fine Habanos have accompanied my studies as I have been preparing! After that's done on Monday, I am looking forward to having a weight lifted off, so I can catch up all the emails I havn't been able to get to, and to focus on that other big thing happening this summer - my wedding. Thanks to those who have wished me luck! I'll give it the ol' College try tomorrow! Best of all - Lined up for tomorrow evening is a celebratory cigar I've saved for years - my one and only Cohiba Sublimes, and an uncracked Ardbeg I've been dying to try, Ardbeg Alligator. Review pending! Wish me luck, all! PS - yes I did something like about 3 years ago...that was for technical competency. This one is for the whole deal - so I can prove i'm ready to be the Boss!
hdryder Posted June 18, 2012 Posted June 18, 2012 Best of luck on your exam brother & congrats on your upcoming wedding. Cheers Richard

capnshazam Posted June 18, 2012 Posted June 18, 2012 I'm sure you did fine. From my own experience waiting for results on a promotional exam I took in October of last year, just try to not think about it until the results come out. I worried a lot for about 5 months waiting for the official results. While I did pass, I was worrying over nothing and lost a good deal of sleep. Tim
