So I've had this Rocky Patel cigar in my humidor for a year or so, given to me by someone. "olde world reserve", the band says. Thought I'd smoke it tonight. I was wrong. I cut it--wind tunnel. Lit it--not sure if that's tobacco or not, but it doesn't exactly taste like a cigar. I gave it a go for about twenty minutes and had to go and get a cigar to smoke. I've heard that these are among the most popular brands of cigars in the world. That means there must be people who like them. Very strange.

Well ya gave it a shot anyway. The original Edge cigars were awesome bar none, then went right into the dumper, I've tried some as recent as 07 and they just don't compare the blend did change somewhere. The corojo OWR's in the first two years were great also sadly those went like the edge. The only RP's I look for anymore are the sungrowns, they're still really good, until they're untimely demise when Rocky decides to sell that blend out too. This guy has gotten way over his head in marketing and lost some good cigars along the way.

Guys, I'll take your word for it on the sungrown cigars, but to be honest, the idea of buying a cigar from the company that made that abomination seems unlikely. And it's not that I only smoke Cuban cigars; I love some non-Cubans, like illusione, tatuaje, padron, and others. But this cigar made me embarrassed for the whole Rocky Patel company. It was a really really awful cigar. On a scale of 1-100, it was a 1.

Rocky Patel?? go figure I thought they were called Rocky Pootel, still learning about this fine hobby ;)

Rocky Patel cigars have steadily gone down in quality over the past few years. I used to smoke them regularly, but then I came over to the light side :2thumbs:. The Vintage 1990 is absolute :cowpoop:

Don't mind the few edges I have laying around. Might grab some of the new ones to compare. Your saying that after a while they change their blends?

The first run decades that got a 95 from CA was quite fantastic. The RP sn growns in the small ring gauges can also be good with some age. Otherwise I can't think of a RP cigar I would want to smoke. The few I have had were just terrible. I can take some pretty nasty cigars if I need to but these were tossed. The taste in my mouth made me get the belt sander for my tongue.

RP has a certain amount of tobacco available. They call that 'RP XXX' It might be a great cigar and people love it.

They run out of said blend and just buy a wharehouse of tobacco somewhere (not the same field that made the 'RP XXX' original tobacco). They roll the bought wharehouse into more 'RP XXX' and hope no one notices the cigar they used to love is nothing like the box they just finished.
