What can we do for Guy?

I was discussing this with Ross, Wilkey, Ken, Trev and Ray.

Guy is still pretty much bed ridden and struggling. That is the reality. I have been in contact with Monique and have offered an IPad so he can stay in contact with us. However, internet is not available in the emergency rooms + Guy is not capable at this time of using an Ipad. I think that puts it in perspective for all.

I am leaning toward members getting together from around the world / shooting a short vid and uploading it to a central site. I will arrange the editing. Vid quality does not need to be hi...an Iphone would do it. It does need to be in focus and the sound working.

I would like to get members input on how it could work. Remember it is about cheering Guy up and letting him know how much he is missed and how much we are behind him.

Let's give it some thought for the next few days and go from there.

Also, if we have a speech therapist in the house who specialises in stroke patients.....please drop me a line via PM or e-mail.

My heart aches for guy and his family. The iPad is something to do later when he is able. As to the vids, I'm all for it. I will work one up from here at PDC home base and send it/upload it where you tell me. Rush

We need a catch-cry for the vids .....my thought is whatever you say we all end up in the vids pointing to our heart and then to the camera with catch cry of "Thinking of you Guy"

First, understand I am no expert on file sharing!

I am a member of a file sharing site called FileFactory. I started with them because you can work on their site with a limited registration membership for free. If you need it for a short while you can pay by the month for a premium. There are lots of sites like these but I know a bunch of guys that use this site so, so do I.

Anyway, members could possibly upload their videos to the site (for free, within limitations) and one with a membership can compile them. You can post your files to public folders and give others the address of the file for download. This is how a bunch of folks share music and video files. I use it to download software tutorials as I like to learn new software when I have the time and the tutorials are a really easy way to get started. Some of the tutorials can be several gigs of info so as a member you can work with some pretty big files or use an .rar compressor/expander to break up files.

A lot of the sites have downloaders so you can queue your files to upload when you have the bandwidth and the time.

I am currently upload a short video of the neighbor girls torturing two of my horses in the round pen! I will post up a link for you to try the download and test it out.

A tip on sharing the files. Sign up for an account at Ubuntu One. Upload your video, send the link to Rob. Once done, you have yourself some free "cloud" storage.

There are lots of places to upload video files without having to pay too, Vimeo is great for one or if they are not very long we could just compress and email

Maybe something like we could all post one of our favourite cigars to Rob/PO box/location etc, that way Guy would have a big horde of special cigars for when he gets back up on his feet, each one sent specially from across the world?
