jedipastor Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Well, looks like the rumors are true. HSA has cancelled the Trinidad marca ENTIRELY. The news was leaked/first reported by the LCdH in Hamburg, on their Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/La-Casa-del-Habano-Hamburg/178033528913697 They honestly think we're idiots. They think that everyone who bought Trinidad before will simply buy more Cohibas (or whatever) now instead, and that they'll make just as much money as before with easier / cheaper production. They think we're mindless cattle ... of course they think that, that's how Commies think. Okay, I'm stopping now before I get too angry, lol. Ridiculous.
Charltonc Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 I heard they will come out again in new sizes. So probably bigger ring gauges. They can charge more money for big ring gauge cigars compared to Coloniales (still a pricy corona).
maverickdrinker Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 This was one rumour that I hoped didn't come true...
jedipastor Posted April 24, 2012 Author Posted April 24, 2012 I'm sure they're release so-called "Trinidad" cigars again in a few years as ELs or LCdH exclusives. They'll get a 30% price increase on their already inflated prices, and will probably suck compared to what's available now.
davidsan Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 This is really disappointing, I quite enjoy Trinidad cigars.
Scdalak Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Never really understood the marketing behind the Trini's box counts and high price points. With so many other Cuban Choices in the vitolas Trini offered I can understand why people avoided purchasing these expensive sticks. My Dad will be dissapointed as he loves the Robusto Extras...

The official message, and what we were told in HAV a few months back, is that they will be discontinued to be re-launched again in a few years as a "premium brand". Never found any sense in their messages, as I never believed in their sense in the first place
Ginseng Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 HSA, Again you disappoint us. You could have kept the Reyes and the Fundadores. Wilkey
Ophidion Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 I want to be mad at this but I just can't seem to be. I really like the trini Reyes, robusto extra and colonies but I always had a problem with their pricing. They just don't seem to be worth the price.
almudawi Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Noooo one of my favorite brands.. Time for stocking up. These will become the new Davidoffs
Puros Y Vino Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Geez... The Reyes is my favourite short cigar. Already miss the Rob T's. Might have to get a few boxes of Reyes and Fundy's.
Ophidion Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 I think the only ones I'll actually stock up on is the Reyes. They are an amazing short cigar.
rfenst Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Isn't that how it seems to be working out with individual cigars in every marca?

Ophidion Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 I think the only ones I'll actually stock up on is the Reyes. They are an amazing short cigar and have a great flavor. With how much I've been smoking PCs, it would be a shame to not have some of these on hand.
isa Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Have enjoyed quite a few Trini Reyes & some robusto extras - well, adieu for now, i guess
pedromendes Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 This does not bode well for the future. Taking the step of deleting an entire marca sets the precedent for us losing Diplomaticos, Gloria Cubanas and so many others that are "in danger". The idea of relaunching them sickens me too as it only means higher prices.

Won't be long until we're down to the big 7 plus the RASS and that's it.

Never found any sense in their messages, as I never believed in their sense in the first place Great, another brand filled with $300 to $500 boxes of cigars. One of the main reasons I hardly look to Cohiba for cigars.
celtmick1984 Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Though I've never had a Trinidad (yet), I find this news disappointing. One of the great things about Habanos is the sense that you can smoke (more or less), what your grandfather smoked and that your son or grandson can (more or less) smoke what you smoked. There's a timelessness and mystique to Cuban cigars that all post-revolutionary brands want, but cannot have. By dicking around with the marcas, Cuba tarnishes its standing. And yes, I know, Trinidad was a post-revolutionary marca. Yet, the principle remains. If the commies won't engage in some economically foolish deployment of resources to buttress an ideal, who will (typed tongue in cheek)?
canadianbeaver Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 In Rob's video review he did not like this year's Fundadores at all. I loved the one Frank gave me and it had at least a year or two on it. Like Art said, time to stock up on them? They are not inexpensive, so perhaps my next Cuban request will have be a box of those.

Sadly Rob's assertion that this years Fundy's "suck" does not bode well. The one I gave you was from a box split with Tony. I have to get the box code from him.
