maverickdrinker Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 got a fiver of these to try; decided to fire one up as I clean out the garage. The cigar has a nice light colorado brown colour. squeeze test shows some soft spots. A little spongy however, the foot looks packed. cold draw dominated by leather. A bit of harshness. Easy to light. Used a punch for this little guy. Iniital puffs reveals nuttiness and leather. A little harsh to start off. A flavour I am familiar with is coming through. Pecan?
maverickdrinker Posted April 8, 2012 Author Posted April 8, 2012 ash is very dark grey. Is a very constructed cigar. Flavours have changed after the first third. Tastes soapy???
maverickdrinker Posted April 8, 2012 Author Posted April 8, 2012 soap, leather and a hint of floral notes. This is a wierd cigar.
maverickdrinker Posted April 8, 2012 Author Posted April 8, 2012 Nuttiness really coming through now. Much more enjoyable. Hints of leather coming back as well as the floral nots are more pronounced.
maverickdrinker Posted April 8, 2012 Author Posted April 8, 2012 Starting to hit the last third. The cigar continues to show leather, nuttiness and floral notes. The leather has come to the forefront.
maverickdrinker Posted April 8, 2012 Author Posted April 8, 2012 A very 'interesting' cigar. Needs some down town for the flavours to come together. Never had a soapy taste come out in a cigar before. Kept me guessing throughout the cigar to see what would reveal itself. I wouldn't pick up any more of these. Not really in my wheelhouse. If anything, I would smoke one for a change of pace. Final smoking time: 1 hour 10 minutes
canadianbeaver Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 I keep hearing this expression "wheelhouse" from you guys... what does it mean? Nice review and I too sometimes get soapy notes but could not ART-iculate it before.
laficion Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 Nice review since I'm a QdO fan. Sorry to hear about the soap taste, I never had that in a cigar.
Guest leanderdsilva Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 Cool format for a review! This smoke sounds very interesting.
Scdalak Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 I keep hearing this expression "wheelhouse" from you guys... what does it mean? Nice review and I too sometimes get soapy notes but could not ART-iculate it before. Lisa "wheelhouse" is most often used as a baseball term/slang when a Pitcher serves up a very easy pitch to hit. "That ball was right in his WheelHouse", he hit it right out of the park.
gersonmorelli Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 Great description of the cigar! Just had one two days ago watching the Masters and mentioned this lavander flavor in the post. I guess soapy is a great way to describe it as well. I am also not convinced to buy a full box especially considering the price tag, but it is a different cigar. For better or for worse.
Ghabanos Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 Nice review since I'm a QdO fan. Sorry to hear about the soap taste, I never had that in a cigar. A fan here too. Sorry about the soapy taste. I smoked about 5 of these. I'm afraid the next one will remind me of my mom washing my mouth out with soap. lol Btw. Like the change up on the new format.
Dbone Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 Nice review and great format. I have a box of these but I'm keeping them on lock-down for a bit more. I remember Pres would do a review like this back-in-the-day. He would announce about 5hrs (or something like that) before what cigar he was smoking... gave others to join in if they had time and the same cigar. We all smoked together and posted impressions as a group. It was pretty neat
isa Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 Great review , thanks. I have received 3 samplers from the czar, will try one soon & post
CanuckSARTech Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Just recently got an absolutely STUNNING PSP box of these beaut's from Czar's. I'm letting them rest a while, then will crack into them. Amazing aromas, oily marbled rich colorado wrappers, great overall construction, and just beautiful deliciousness in a box. Can't wait to try them....
ramon_cojones Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Man really disappointed and misled thought there was gonna be a live video feed LOL!!!
isa Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 Smoked my first QDO superiores (i am pretty new to cubans , so take things with a pinch of salt ): Nutty, leathery, pepper on the nose, toasted, but also coffee bean sometimes & milk coffee side of things! Occasional off flavours - a bit of harshness once or twice in the first third, some woody flavours, dry fruits after halfway mark - last third not that interesting. Medium body, i would say. The colour of the ash though was very light grey - almost white!! Overall pretty good.
