Can anyone help me out with the year of this box? The box is covered with wax paper and hecho en cuba on the bottom. Any and all help will be appreciated.

Wow nice find! Use Trevor's site and compare the seal to get an idea of the year. See here. To my eye, the detail on the seal is somewhat lacking in comparison to what is on Trev's site. I'm looking at yours in Photoshop side by side and while close it seems a bit off. Hopefully someone else can chime in.

The "Hecho In Cuba" on the bottom also seems a bit off. Can you take flatter pictures of it?

I cannot give exact date, no date stamp is a sign of before 1980, also the Hecho En Cuba is a clear indication.

The workman seal "Repubica De Cuba" is after 1960 so that should give you a range.

and on a side note

All data above comes from the Cuban cigar website by Trevor Leask at Cuban Cigar Website

I don't want to burst your bubble but nothing looks right on that box,

the seal is not put on correctly plus the print and the green color is not good.

the seal is not of any of the seals periods plus it looks poorly photocopyed.

For an old box the "Hecho en Cuba" alone is not good, it should have the Cubatabaco

Styled tobacco leaf on top of Hecho en Cuba.

One other thing is that the dress ribbon around the box is not the right design for a

Montecristo box, plus the printing in front, in red and black is all smuged.

For me, they are fake. sorry !!!!

Here is another picture, but I can't seem to load the other three pics as the files are too bigthumbsdwn.gif

I have to agree with this also.....just looks wrong.

Whats is the story on these cigars?

Trevor.

PS> The box is purporting to be between 1961 (the end of the perforated warranty seal) and 1985 (when the Cubatobacco logo was added). The worst aspect is the "emerald green" colour of the warranty seal.

Also if you look at the back stamp, the black rounded ends have never existed.

P.S. Could you tell us if this is a box that you bought

and where does the box come from ?

I agree many things look weird; and there is that "No.4" in bold red letters on the front (the lid)…

When I saw the first set of pictures I knew I was going to learn something... I couldn't make a solid 'adding up' from several elements (stamp, seal, size and position of seal) compared to the info from Trevor's site.

Soo, what are we looking at? A period fake (from the 70's or 80's) or even more scary a recent fake? If so one has got to have respect for the way the forgers could apply the patina to it. (Reminds me in a way of a fake magnum of Le Pin 1982 I was shown in France, compared with a genuine... that was, well... discomforting to say the least.)

Poor pedro, sorry to hear that they are fakes.

Hopefully he hasn't bought them yet and these photos are pre purchase verfication? If you did buy these Pedro, get your money back ASAP.

Yes I did buy the box and have had it for several years along with my many other vintage collection. I bought them with quite a few other cigars from a collector in Victoria, BC. I will try to find his contact information today as I am pissed and out quite a bit of moneythumbsdwn.gif

Sorry to hear it Pedro. Hopefully you'll be able to get your money back. You obviously haven't opened it.

I am truly very sorry to hear this Pedro, but if this can help, I know guys

that called themselves "experts" on Cubans that bought for thousands of dollars

of "so called" vintage cuban Dunhills & Davidoffs to find out years later that they were

fake de fakes . I'm sure that others on this forum know what I'm talking about.

Collecting vintage wines & cigars can be a very delicate & complicated quest when

you're not FULLY informed on the subject.

Take care brother, I hope it all works out .

I'm worried about the rest of your stock, given that you recently posted about a Cohiba torpedo EL you had from 2001, this M4, and the La Corona - which we should investigate.

So please, let's see the rest of your vintage stock. :innocent:
