laficion Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 I will not be asking you what are you smoking today but rather, what will you be smoking this month and maybe the next. Do you have an Idea ? It may be an odd question but today, like every 2 months, I check my Humidors and I start planing the cigars that I will be smoking until the next check. I've been doing this for such a long time that I don't ever give it much though. While I was thinking about which cigars to pick, I started asking myself If there were other cigar smokers around the world who also plan ahead the cigars they'll be smoking first. Well for me, aside my normal Corona Gordas, (HdM Epicure No.1, SLR Series A,)en cour, I picked out 3 boxes that I will be smoking this month and up to mid-March. Plus I'll be smoking some special cigars gifted by some great brothers from FOH, I won't be talking about those yet. (but soon) Also I'll be finishing off some almost empty boxes. Here are the 3 boxes that I've picked . First, a box of Quai D'Orsay- Coronas. 2nd box, H.Upmann- Amatista- Grand Coronas. 3rd box, HdM- Palmas Extra - Cremas Also some singles I'll be finishing off the boxes. Do any of you do anything similar to this or am I the only around ?
danistalking Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 I didn't know they still had cans like that... No I don't do this unfortunately due to having no space to store multiple boxes at the moment..I really gotta get myself a coolidor or something...
nonameno Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 Hello Guy, I am much too spontaneous for planning out that much cigar smoking. Currently, I am only dreaming about going into my coolidors, while I wait for winter to pass away... I think it sounds fun that you can plan your routine out, and then sit back enjoy your selections. It will be fun to hear back how you are liking your choices! Thank you, Curtiss
Rushman Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 I like the idea but don't really plan anything that far ahead. I roam the humidor and pick something off the shelf. Usually something that we don't sell a lot of like RASS, robainas, BCG, Lusi's, or whatever looks tasty. --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=20.631644,-87.070553
headstand Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 Guy, As it is still bitterly cold here in Alberta Canada, I will be working through a bakers dozen of singles that recently arrived from Czars: Principes, Parti Shorts, a Reyes. And of course my faithful supply of Boli CJs. With any luck a warm Chinook wind will blow through and allow me to spend some time with a Monte 2. Cheers
Lotusguy Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 I never plan that far ahead - I smoke whatever the mood strikes me for. That's the benefit of having a larger stock
j0z3r Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 I don't generally plan that far ahead. I'm an "in the moment" decision maker when it comes to cigars. One cigar I know for sure I'll be smoking this month is the SLR Regios. I can say that without a doubt because they're smoking fantastically and I cannot get enough. Joe
jkdooley Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 I'm way too spontaneous for that, but love the ashtray!!!
davidl Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 For me the next couple of months will be about H Upman Petite Corona, and Juan Lopez #1. Great looking smokes Laficion!
dicko Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 I don't plan ahead that far. That said, at the start of the week (like a mon or tuesday) I will pick out a few cigars and dry box them.
winelover Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 Easy for me as just three (full) 2011 boxes in stock, MC2, BBF and RASS. The BBF (same box code as Rob's recent review) has an awesome aroma whereas MC2 and RASS are muted so will try BBF first.
Hemsworth Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 I usually wait until my humidor whispers at me as I walk by. It hasn't let me down yet.
Ghabanos Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 really just a mix of RA extra, QDO corona, Siglo 6, Magicos, Secretos, robbie T and bhk 52 - depending on time and feeling. I have a few other singles.... but this is what's in my humi right now and I just go with what I feel like... I have a box or RASS coming and want to know what all the commotion is on these...
Colt45 Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 I can't imagine planning it that far ahead - I usually don't know what I'm going to smoke until I look in the humidor
Murri Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 I can't imagine planning it that far ahead - I usually don't know what I'm going to smoke until I look in the humidor Same here, but it's too cold here for anything this time of year. The only one I'm actually planning on is the first one in the tasting trials. Plan to test it out in Cuba next month.
Habanakane21 Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 Well, I've been loving my box of HdM Epi No.1 and my Bolivar PC. I have several box coming in the next couple weeks. H Upmann Sir Winstons, 2 boxes pf Ramon Allones LE Extra, Pancho Sanza Sahnchos box of 10, Juan Lopez No.4 ,Partagas SD4.
mk05 Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 I agree with you that some smokers plan out what they want to smoke, because I am one of those , along with several others on this board. I don't really select specific boxes to clear for the month though. My method is a combination of yours and "my humi will speak to me." Along with my deep sleep storage compartments, I have 2 50 count desktops that keep around 55-60rh and sitting in room temp of 72deg F. Generally speaking, this lets me put cigars into my preferred smoking state for about two weeks (only fill it halfway). Anytime I am going to smoke, I select cigars out from one of the desktop, and put the same number of cigars into the other. I switch when one is empty What I put in the humi is purely on a whim on that date (and actually affected by what you guys talk about in the forum and reviews) - but I won't be seeing those cigars for at least 2 weeks. So my current humi has a lot of my regular rotation of ERDM CC, QdM C, and cigars mentioned in previous discussions on FoH (some BBF, Monte 2/3/C/D, BHKs, and some SLR). The other humi is mostly all RA Es and Boli jar figurados . haha, I might have to fix that.
aavkk Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 Guy I used to plan ahead but for me find that i was often in the mood for a different cigar when it came time to light it up. Now I shoot from the hip 100%. That being said when I get reacquainted with my humidor (currently living 800 miles away) in a few months I plan on doing a very thorough inspection of every box and updating my inventory on paper. When I choose a cigar I like to look over my collection on paper rather than digging around boxes.
PuffDaddie Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 Diplomaticos no.2, HDM epicure no.2 and Monte no.2. I have a thing for the number two.
mbrody Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 I've gotten pretty comfortable with my regulars, making an appearance each month: upman mag46; Connie 1; partagas shorts/d4; boli pc/cj; JL 1&2; Slr regios. After that, it is a misc. Grab as fill in...it's taken a while, but now I know my staples!
MrGlass Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 I don't plan that far ahead, but then again what you have selected for the next two months is more than what is in my humidor.
mazolaman Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Nice to see the Hoyo Palmas extras. Are you enjoying them? For me any of Boli RC, Cazadores, Cuaba divinos, Sancho belicosos, Por Laranaga PC...
Dbone Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Very interesting to say the least, Guy. Bravo I can not seem to get consistency, even with Robs hand picked gems, to know each time I reach for a stick that my expectations are going to be met. I'm not planning like you but I have began to not just smoke one cigar from a box. Once I get in the mood for a particular cigar, my 4 or 5 next are from the same box. So if it's RASS today, I know it's going to be RASS tomorrow and rest of the week. I'll find on average out of 5 or 6 cigars, one usually is subpar, one is out-of-this-world good, others are average. Also this works to my advantage so I don't have 50 boxes with only a few cigars left inside lol.. I smoke through the boxes faster, this helps get the old out and new in. Smoke in good health
thechenman Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 I smoke whatever I have that strikes me when I open my humidor. It really depends on how much time I have and my mood. The only time I do plan out my smokes is when I have to stock up my travel case for vacations.
ramon_cojones Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 Dbone - I think your inconsistency problem has to do with fresher stock, if you let them rest they will round out and start tasting more like the next one you select. I have noticed this from younger boxes I own. My method is a combination of what everyone else has said plus a couple of other criteria. My taste is strictly mood driven based on time of day, what I feel like and what is smoking well from my collection. Also, -I never plan ahead so if I go on a trip I will take an assortment (I won't have an idea of what I want until the day I will smoke) -I don't have to wait until I open my humidor I have my stock memorized -I will sample cigars I've put to rest for awhile and if they're good they will be in future rotations So basically, whatever I think will really hit the spot. I've stopped smoking most of my 09 cohibas at this time and have subbed in d4s, rass, 898s, shorts, upmann 2s which I will crack, jl2s along with several gifted singles. I am not smoking any of my robo Ts and long term rass/d4s because I feel like the payofff will be greater than the current reward because I prefer the taste of cigars with some age on them. I think eventually my humidor will be filled with 30 boxes ea of rass and d4, I would be a happy man.
