I came across this interview on another forum. The link below should take you to a page with the actual interview and transcript of the interview. I'm confused concerning some of the things NG says. Specifically about Americans buying fake Cohibas in Cuba. Please read or listen to the interview and leave your comments. Cheers!

Wow - very unflattering portrait of the man...

I've read that article awhile back, he definitely knows his stuff. Regarding Cohibas in Cuba, I imagine he is talking about regular shops selling cigars, or people on the streets, certain hotels, locals that are selling Cohibas that their "brother" snuck out of the factory etc. Just buy in the LCDH's and you are fine, real Cohibas.

I'm saddened that there are people out there that base their opinions on a man based on what some hack journalist claims was said, or presumes the context in which it was said.

I've never met Jimmy, though people who I sincerely trust the opinion of have.... and they claim him to be one of the nicest, most generous people that they have met.

Just looks like shody lazy journalism, I'm not sure that it even makes sense!

Agreed. First it's not about money, then only millionaires are allowed in...

1. The quality of the journalism really does suck.

2. We don't know the context of the interview.

3. I don't get the sense that Jimmy was invited or expected to deliver anything more than sound bites. Given that, how could he have possibly commented on global supply and access to Habanos, especially by American citizens? Impossible. So the ostensive situation regarding the embargo is the only reality he can responsibly speak to.

4. From all accounts of first hand personal encounters with Jimmy that I have read, he is all things good about Habanos.

So, could the universe have soldiered on had this article/interview never happened? Yeah. I'm pretty sure. Did it inform? Did it educate? Not at all to infinitesimally.

the article is not worth commenting on.

Nothing more to be added. 100% agree with these two statements.

as already said (over and over)... crappy 'journalism' by someone who's in the 'I just hate cigar smoke-league'

And I agree with all of what is said above. This is why I titled the thread "Help me to Understand This." Thanks for the responses. I had the same feeling when I read it the first, second and third times. Just doesn't make sense in the context that it is written.
