El Presidente Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 It rained cats and dogs yesterday. Plenty going on and as the rain howled down in biblical proportions it crossed my mind to cancel.....However Smithy said it is just like Cuba during a typhoon.....well done Smithy ...glass half full type of guy I picked up the wife from day surgery (not serious) and dropped her home, made her a cup of tea. Pulse was weak but steady so I felt it was in order to rush back to Czars to give Smithy a hand. Just some mates getting together...cigars (Partagas E + VR Familiar), wine....mucho wine...gourmet pizzas (had to can the Cuban BBQ due to rain)....and a movie! It was James Sucklings "Heart of Cuba" which is really well done (Jose Candia and Toby Brocklehurst central to its production). It would be hard to go past this movie as a better vid to showcase the process from seed to consumer. It is a warm movie which captures the people involved/their lives. Well done James. I will have copies of the movie for sale over the weekend. Anyway.....I got home at 1am ish but misplaced my house keys. Ben opens the door.....and again says "This really should be the other way around" Movie nights at Czars.....Brilliant !!!!!
CanuckSARTech Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 Well done, Rob. Looks like you guys had a great time nonetheless. Best wishes for an easy recovery for the wife, no matter the cause. And good on your boy - a nice zinger, I'd say! I was going to ask about JS' movie with this. I see you state, "I will have copies of the movie for sale over the weekend." Now, I'm gathering that this movie is commercially / professionally made. But, how is he releasing this? Is this just available for sale now, and/or will there be actual theatre screenings around the world? And, if just a straight-to-disc sale, DVD/Blu-Ray, timelines, etc.? Just curious how he's going about releasing it. That, and depending on availability ( ), I'm game for a Blu-ray copy if that's an option. Just as long as it's not a pirated Asian knock-off copy, that's filmed from a shaky camcorder in the back of the theatre, and just a generic disc with a Sharpie-written cover to it!
compitaveggie Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 Looks like you guys had a great time. Very interested in the movie!!!
rckymtn22 Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 Just as long as it's not a pirated Asian knock-off copy, that's filmed from a shaky camcorder in the back of the theatre, and just a generic disc with a Sharpie-written cover to it! or a shaky Smithy knock-off copy! Looks and sounds like a great time. Wish I lived a bit closer!
Ken Gargett Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 great evening and many thanks, tho i am very curious given that i was in the group last to leave - about 9pm. what on earth were you doing until 1am?
OZCUBAN Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 Hi all now that would be a movie worth owning ,cannot wait to see ,glad that the F.O.H soirée went down well despite the weather James has copped a lot of stick from a lot of people over the years ,but for me the things that stand out the most about the man is his unbridled passion He also has a website on the movie Heart and Soul of Cuba Cannot wait to see Cheers OZ
SCgarman Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 Don't feel bad about the weather, it has rained cats and dogs here too the last 2 days in northern Virginia. By the looks of the pics, pizza, wine and cigars- looks like a great get together!
riazp Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 looks like great times were had...to bad this is half way around the world. Suckling was doing a screening at the lcdh in monteal...couldnt make it due to work. shame.
riazp Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 btw Rob, How was the VR Familiar? been curious about these recently
El Presidente Posted December 8, 2011 Author Posted December 8, 2011 btw Rob, How was the VR Familiar? been curious about these recently Recollection a tad shaky. Very good cigar in typical VR style. The problem has never been the Familiar itself....always the construction. People who did love it and stopped buying stopped out of frustration.

Keith...I have no idea mate James gives me a call about the movie. Spoke to Jose and Toby they loved the movie. I said I would be happy to promote the movie in Oz through FOH. Anyone who goes to the effort to produce a professional cigar movie of this quality deserves support whether you are a fan or not of James personal style. This is about the beauty of Cuban Cigars and its people. That is as much as I know mate
Ken Gargett Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 one priceless moment from last night i thought you might enjoy - when james mentions dorothy and the emerald city, the bloke next to me (no names, shagga) leant over and asked, 'who's dorothy?'. i said 'wizard of oz'. shagga thought for a moment and replied, 'didn't know she smoked'.
OZCUBAN Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 Just finished watching the digital download ,a very good film and highly enjoyable, and a excellent insistence into the whole process of cigars ,won't spoil content for others ,so if you get a chance to watch it enjoy OZ

Warren Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 Thanks for another great evening Mate. I thought the rain was a good test for the new deck.
